Volpe Eliminated in 143rd Place (€9,000)

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Paul Volpe
Paul Volpe

We ran into Paul Volpe in the hall way and he was so kind to give us the details on his bust out hand.

He had worked his stack up to 85,000 but would lose most of them in a hand where the player under the gun opened to 9,500. The player was playing a 70,000 stack and Volpe shoved from middle position with {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. The older gentlemen, who had opened under the gun more than once, tanked for some time but eventually made the call with pocket fives. The board didn't help Volpe who was left with just a few chips.

Those remaining chips would soon be gone too. He got it in with pocket fours against ace ten. The flop gave his opponent top two and the remaining two fours didn't pop up on the turn or river. Volpe finished 143rd for €9,000.

He immediately took the little booklet the organization was handing out, to check which side event to play.

Kuo Eliminated in 144th Place (€8,600), Ladouceur Short

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Kitty Kuo

Nicolai Kramer opened to 8,000 under the gun plus one and Marc-Andre Ladouceur made it 21,500 from the button. Kitty Kuo in the small blind shoved her chips forward and made it 36,000 total to Kramer. He made the call and so did Ladouceur.

{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts} on the flop and both players checked. The turn was the {4-Spades} and Kramer bet 18,000. PokerStars Team Online player Ladouceur made the call, but folded on the {10-Spades} river when Kramer set him all in.

Kuo showed her {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} but probably knew by now that that hand was no good anymore. Kramer showed the full house he had with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and raked in the chips while Kuo was already heading out the door.

Let’s Gamble

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

With everyone in the money and a while to go until the money jumps there is a completely different atmosphere for the low to medium stacks. Certainly that’s how Mikhail Marchenko from Russia sees it as he opened for 10,500 in the small blind and called a raise to 21,500 from big blind fellow Russian Dmitry Ponomarev. The flop was {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and they both elected to check. Turn card {j-Spades} elicited a check from Marchenko, a bet of 16,500 from Ponomarev and a check raise all-in from Marchenko. “Call. “ Said Ponomarev who turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a set but was behind to the turned straight of Marchenko who tabled {a-Spades}{9-Spades}. The river was the {k-Clubs} and Marchenko happily doubled up exclaiming “Before (the bubble) I’d fold.”

The Money Bubble has Burst

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Three eliminations came so fast that there was no need for hand-for-hand play. We managed to catch the busts of Jannick Wrang and Christian Golob, but not that of Alexander Lakhov, who appeared to be the 152nd-place finisher.

The rapid eliminations resulted in the tournament staff pausing the tournament several minutes so they could conduct a head count. After tallying the player, and checking it twice, it's been determined that 151 players remain and the remaining field is in the money!

What's Going On?

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Play has stopped for now and the tournament staff is counting the amount of players still left in the tournament. This has been going on for some time now, it's unclear why it's taking so long. Some of the players are convinced the bubble has already bursted and that they're actually already in the money. We'll report back to you when we know for sure.
