Watson Sent to the Rail Courtesy of Fung

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Mike Watson
Mike Watson

With around 100,000 in the pot and a board reading {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, Lo Shing Fung checked from the big blind and Mike Watson bet 56,000. Fung responded with a check-raised to 146,000, Watson called, and the {6-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Fung, who had the bigger stack, announced that he was all in, and Watson waited for about 20 seconds before calling for for 240,000 or so. Fung rolled over the {j-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for the nuts, and Watson simply shook his head up and down and then mucked his hand.

Since it was an all-in situation, the dealer was obligated to expose his hand — the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Watson's set was no good, and his elimination means that only one player from last year's final table (Sorel Mizzi) remains in the tournament. If you recall, Watson had finished seventh last year for €218,300.

Spain's Only Hope Meets an Unlucky End

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Until this year, a Spanish player had never entered the EPT Grand Final €100K Super High Roller. After winning the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event last year, 19-year-old Adrian Mateos decided to give it a go in this year's SHR. The Spanish railbirds were excited for their man, and like him, they waited patiently for a double. Mateos recently got his chips in as a dominating favorite, but sometimes poker can be a cruel game.

It began when Igor Kurganov opened for 22,000 from under the gun and Fabian Quoss flatted. When action reached Mateos in the small blind, he moved all in for 160,000 total. Kurganov quickly got out of the way, and then Quoss snap-called.

Quoss: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Mateos: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Mateos was a 65.48% favorite while Quoss would come from behind 33.69% of the time. Actually, that number was even less as another player at the table claimed to have folded an ace.

Even so, the {3-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop provided two of them and put a dagger through Mateos' heart. Just like that the Spaniard went from being a big favorite to drawing dead. The meaningless {J-Clubs} and {7-Hearts} were run out on the turn and river respectively, and then a dejected Mateos took his leave from the tournament in 25th place.

That means it's time for the three-table redraw.

Torelli Falls

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Alec Torelli
Alec Torelli

Lo Shing Fung opened from late position and called a shove by Alec Torelli in the big blind.

Fung had {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Torelli was at risk with his suited {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

The cards fell {3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{k-Clubs} the turn giving Torelli a flush sweat but it was not to be.

Esfandiari Doubles Through Negreanu

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

Daniel Negreanu opened for 22,000 and got a call from Chistoph Vogelsang in the small blind. Antonio Esfandiari was in the big blind and he made it 70,000.

The action was back on Negreanu who raised him announcing that this was his first five-bet of the tournament. Vogelsang folded and Esfandiari moved all in pretty quickly and was just as quickly called by Negreanu.

Negreanu {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Esfandiari {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Esfandiari’s tournament life was on the line but as the cards ran out {q-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts} he dodged Negreanus’ outs and doubled up his stack at the Team PokerStars Pro’s expense.

Phua Gets a Double

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Cates opened from the button and then called a shove from Wei Seng Phua who was in the big blind. Cates showed {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and was behind the at risk Phua who shoved with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

The final board showed {2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts} to give Phua his double up.

Shakerchi’s Jacks Double Up

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Talal Shakerchi open shoved his short stack and it folded round to Chunlei Zhou in the big blind. He looked like he was getting ready to fold until he saw his hand looked good enough to make the call. He dithered between the two options before making the call with {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} and seeing the bad news as Shakerchi showed his {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

Shakerchi survived once again and doubled up.

McDonald Doubles Ivey

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Phil Ivey opened the cutoff to 20,000 and Mike McDonald three-bet to 55,000 from the small blind. Ping San Chan in the big blind thought about it for some time, but folded eventually. Phil Ivey responded by shoving allin for his 261,000 stack, McDonald called.

Phil Ivey: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Mike McDonald: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The board didn't display any cards higher than an eight and Ivey doubled: {4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.
