Lacay Makes the Wrong Call

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

With 18,500 in the pot and a board reading {8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs}, we watched Estonia's Ermo Kosk bet a healthy 12,000 into EPT9 Sanremo champ Ludovic Lacay, who thought long and hard before tossing in a call.

Kosk rolled over the {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a straight, and it was good as a frustrated Lacay sent his cards to the muck.

Bad Boy for Life

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Luke Schwartz, the bad boy of UK poker, walked through the tournament room with Trickett as he was taking his seat. Schwartz returned to his own table to be told by the dealer that he had left the table out of turn and he must therefore pay a penalty of sitting out for one round.

“You’re kidding me?” he said. “I don’t care.”

Schwartz then resumed playing poker on his phone, resting it on the table rail which is strictly forbidden. Told off by the dealer again Schwartz decided to rest his arm on the table and place his phone on his arm.

Blom Bets His Ace

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Annette Obrestad

Table 3 isn't too easy a table. The EPT Grand Final is a tough tournament, but this table takes it to extremes. Andrew Pantling, Viktor Blom, Johnny Lodden, Olvedo Heinze and Annette Obrestad are all there, and the other players look like they know what they're doing as well.

Just now it was Blom involved with Obrestad in a big hand. On the board was {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and Blom had bet out 5,650. Obrestad in the hijack thought for just a few seconds before calling. Somewhat confident Blom tabled {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. That hand was no good though as Obrestad showed her {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

Trickett Late Regs

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Sam Trickett has just bought in late to the event. He had a good reason to be late though as he was watching the football game where Liverpool got beaten 2-0 by Chelsea in the English Premier League to put Liverpool’s title hopes at risk. Trickett, who is a big Manchester United fan, has a large bet on Manchester City to win the title so it was, “Huge.” for Trickett as it means they are still in with a good chance.

He’s certainly had a smile on his face as he sat down to play

The Daily EPT10 Player of the Year Update for 4-27-14

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

The European Poker Tour Season 10 Player of the Year race is nearing an end, and as you know players have been accumulating points in all events throughout Season 10, regardless of the buy-in level. In addition, all of the Festival Events (Estrellas, UKIPT, Eureka, FPS, IPT) that combine with an EPT tour stop have been eligible for Player of the Year points. The winner of this season’s award will walk away with €50,000 in Main Event buy-ins, good for any PokerStars or Full Tilt sponsored event.

The Global Poker Index (GPI) points formula, which will be used to determine the EPT10 POY, is a bit complicated, but you can read about all the details here.

Here are the current top ten on the EPT10 POY Leaderboard. As you can see, Ole Schemion is running away with it and is a near lock to lay claim to the title, especially since he finished seventh in the Super High Roller yesterday and those points still need to be added to his total.

Set-Over-Set Flop Puts an Early End to Negreanu's Day

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu doesn't tend to bust from tournaments too early, but of course a set-over-set flop will throw a wrench in anyone's well-laid plans. Unfortunately Negreanu just found that out in one of the most prestigious events of the year.

We didn't catch the action, which transpired at the tail end of Level 4, until the river with about 7,000 in the pot and a board reading {2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The Team PokerStars Pro bet 3,600 from the big blind, and World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Roger Hairabedian put in a big raise from the under-the-gun position.

Negreanu, who had 5,375 back, called off and tabled the {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Unfortunately for him, "Big Roger" had flopped a bigger set with the {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, which of course turned into quads.

Negreanu, who was receiving a massage, laughed at his misfortune and then said to the masseuse in a friendly tone, "Ok, finish it up."
