Maimone's Hero Call Fails

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

On a {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} board we saw online tournament wizard Nick Maimone and online cash game wizard Hendrik Latz tangling. Maimone was seated in the small blind and Latz in the big blind. Latz had 190,000 in front of him and was all in. Maimone was thinking about it.

Maimone took out the 190,000 he needed to call, played around with it for some time, and then called. Latz showed {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the flush, Maimone open mucked his {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. As the break is coming up, we're going to make sure we have the right counts for these two.

A Cold Night In Paris

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Bryan Paris opened the cutoff for 12,000 and his neighbor Jack Salter three-bet to 33,000 from the button. Both blinds folded and Paris made the call.

{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Spades} on the flop and Paris check-called a 27,000 bet from Salter. The {10-Hearts} got checked through and the {K-Hearts} fell on the river. Paris checked, and called a 78,000 bet from Salter after some thinking.

Salter showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Paris mucked.

Strassmann; A Literal Chip and a Chair

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Johannes Strassmann
Johannes Strassmann

Johannes Strassmann is not happy.

Not only did he just lose a huge pot to Matias Alberto Ruzzi with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} to {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} on a {9-Clubs}{10-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts} board but he wasn't even eliminated. Instead, he was left with a single chip. And not a big chip either. It was a single T1,000 red chip — the smallest still in play.

Stay tuned to see if he can come back.

Exits Aplenty

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

A number of exits in the last few minutes.

  • Terence Michael Reardon was knocked out when his {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} couldn't beat Alexandros Kolonias' {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} on a {J-Spades}{A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} board.
  • Alex Klimashin unsuccessfully flipped {A-Hearts}{10-Spades} against Vladimir Troyanovskiy's {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} when the latter made quads on a {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{Q-Spades} board.
  • Georgy Filippovich was all in with {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} but lost out to Narendra Banwari's {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, Banwari making a straight on the river of a {7-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} board.
  • Abdulaziz Abdulaziz lost with aces to king-queen then was eliminated when his {9-}{9-} got beaten by Bryan Paris' {A-}{J-}

Reardon Out, Or Is He?

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Terence Michael Reardon found himself all in on a {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}-flop holding {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. "You don't have diamonds right?" he asked after Kenny Hicks called. "Oh you do" said Reardon as Hicks turned over {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Reardon needed runner runner perfect for the straight flush, but that was way too much to ask: {4-Spades} on the turn, {9-Hearts} on the river.

Reardon gave everyone a hand at the table, said it was ok after people said they felt sorry for him, and was packing his bag and jacket to make his exit.

But he wasn't actually out, he had 31,000 left. "Oh, what do you know" he laughed as he took his seat again. Time for an epic come back? Pieter de Korver came back from one big blind to win the tournament for 2.3 million a couple of years ago, can Reardon do the same?
