Day 4 Completed

Eichhardt Leads Final 36 Hopefuls Into Penultimate Day

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Peter Eichhardt
Peter Eichhardt

The biggest European Poker Tour main event of all time saw another exciting day of poker come and go, and it was Peter Eichhardt from Sweden who bagged up the chip lead with 4.36 million.

At the end of Day 4, there were two former champions in the hunt for their second title; Ukrainian Oleksii Khoroshenin bagged up 2.325 million, and Frederik Jensen took 2.28 million to Day 5 after making an amazing call for all his chips right before the end of the night.

The fourth day of play started with 110 players, including Team PokerStars Pros Andre Akkari (445,000) and Matthias De Meulder (840,000), both of whom managed to survive another day of poker. Akkari's best EPT main event finish was a 23rd-place result last season in Monte Carlo, while De Meulder has been in this spot before, finishing 10th in the EPT Barcelona Main Event in Season 8 for €50,000.

Top pros Jason Les, Jason Mo, Jeremy Ausmus, and Liviu Ignat were among the players that got knocked out early, while Jonas Palsgaard and Daniel Dvoress shot up the charts. Palsgaard went through some big swings and bagged up 1.9 million, while Dvoress had a rough night and finished with just 700,000.

Former EPT Dortmund champion Mike McDonald (43rd - €22,840) hit the rail on Day 4, as did Michael Eiler, who took down the EPT Vienna Main Event in Season 7. Eiler busted to Eichhardt, who held the lead the last three hours of the day.

Three-time World Poker Tour title holder and recent World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Anthony Zinno was still in the hunt to become the fastest Triple Crown winner in history, but his run fell short in 41st place.

A big group of nationalities remained in the hunt for the title After Day 4, but Sebastian Tejada was the last American standing. The Canadians are in much better shape, with four players still contending, and that's the most of any country. The home nation of Spain, who finally broke the spell and crowned their first winner at last season's EPT Grand Final, saw Sergio Alonso Camunas hit the rail in 39th place, but still have two players in contention; David González and Mario Sánchez.

Play will resume on Saturday at 12 p.m. local time with 36 players remaining. The goal is to play down as close to six players as possible, but with the amazing structure it looks to be another very long day of poker action. All players are guaranteed €27,400 right now, but everyone has their eye set on the first-place prize of over €1.4 million.

Jensen Makes the Biggest Hero Call of The Tournament

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante
Frederik Jensen
Frederik Jensen

With just two hands to go before the end of the night, Frederik Jensen opened for 60,000 from early position. The action folded to Diego Casco Del Riego in the big blind, and he made it 180,000, Jensen called.

The flop brought {9-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, Casco Del Riego bet 175,000 and Jensen made the call.

On the {4-Spades} turn Casco Del Riego bet another 365,000 and Jensen called once more.

The river was the {A-Spades} and Casco Del Riego shoved all in for 567,000, putting Jensen to the test for his last 449,000.

Jensen sighed, tanked for about five minutes, and then called by tossing in a single 5,000-chip.

Casco Del Riego wanted to muck, but his hand was turned over by the dealer; {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Jensen turned over {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and couldn't suppress a small proud smile and a silent "Yes!"

Four More Hands

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

The day is almost done, and four more hands will be played on each table before all the chips are bagged and tagged.

Fast Gone

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Dietrich Fast, who was spotted folding nine-deuce with very little chips behind in the big blind, has just been knocked out. On the very next hand, in the small blind, Fast was all in for less than two big blinds, and Frederik Jensen called in the big blind. It was Mario Lopez who had raised in early position and three players went to the flop.

The flop showed {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and both players checked. On the turn the {7-Spades} hit and Jensen check-called 80,000.

The river was the {7-Diamonds} and both players, with chips left to bet, checked.

Jensen showed {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, and that beat Lopez's {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and Fast's {10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Brito's Set Holds in Monster Pot vs. Juanda

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

John Juanda raised to 64,000 and Joao Brito called from the big blind to create heads up action. The flop came down {5-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Brito checked to Juanda who bet 40,000, and the Portuguese players check-raised to 145,000.

Juanda gave it some thought before moving all in, and Sousa called right away creating a pot worth 1.8 million chips.

Brito: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Juanda: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Juanda had the nut flush draw, but the {Q-Hearts} on the turn gave Brito a full house to seal the deal. The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and Brito raked in this massive pot.

Cold Five Bet Shove

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Oleksii Khoroshenin opened under the gun for 60,000 and his neighbor Diego Casco Del Riego three bet to 144,000. Frederik Jensen cold four bet to 325,000 from the cutoff and Mario Lopez in the small blind pushed all in for 989,000. For a minute it looked like Stuart McDonald in the big blind was thinking what to do, but it turned out he forgot he had cards and folded right after that.

Khoroshenin and Del Riego folded straight away and the decision was on Jensen. He tanked for a bit, asked the dealer to pull in the 325,000 to see how much it was to call (664,000), and cut out those chips to see how much he would have left if he called and would lose (450,000).

He eventually folded and without a flop Lopez became a lot richer.

Lescot Hits the Rail

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Stuart McDonald raised under the gun to 60,000 and Eric Jean Lescot called from the big blind with just a few more left behind. The flop brought out {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Lescot moved all in, resulting in a quick call by McDonald.

McDonald: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Lescot: {8-Spades}{4-Spades}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}, {Q-Hearts} and McDonald raked in the pot.
