Habib Runs Into Cabrera's Buzzsaw

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Pablo Melogno Cabrera opened for 2,200 from early position and Artem Metalidi called. When action reached Walid Bou Habib in the cutoff, he three-bet all in for 28,000. Action folded back to Cabrera, who called, and Metalidi got out of the way.

Cabrera: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Habib: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Habib was dominated, and he saw his tournament life extinguished after the board ran out a clean {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Holz Can't Shake Mizzi

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Fedor Holz bet approximately 30,000 on a {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs} board after Sorel Mizzi checked to him, and the Canadian was in the tank when we got to the table. He decided on a call, and Holz turned over {k-}{q-}. Mizzi held {a-Spades}{10-Spades} and took the pot. Holz's second and final bullet doesn't appear to be going any better than the first.

Busted Boeree Boosts Buonanno

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Liv Boeree moved all in for 9,300 from the cutoff and Antonio Buonanno called from the button. The blinds folded and the cards were turned over.

Boeree: {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Buonanno: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Boeree was racing but would catch no help on a board of {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. It remains to be seen if the British pro will rebuy in this €25k High Roller.

Big Slick Does the Trick for Watson

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Mike Watson, who finished runner-up in the €50,000 Super High Roller a couple days back, opened for 2,000 under the gun and cleared the field all the way around to Thomas Muehloecker, who three-bet to 5,300 from the big blind. Watson responded by four-betting all in for 26,800 and Muehloecker made the call.

Muehloecker: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Watson: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

An ace in the window on the {6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{a-Spades} flop was good news for Watson, and he shipped the double after the board ran out the {5-Hearts} and {Q-Spades} on the turn and river respectively.

Altergott Eliminates Teltscher

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Max Altergott checked-raised to approximately 13,500 on an {8-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board from the big blind against a cutoff bet of about 4,000 from Mark Teltscher. Teltscher called, and the {9-Hearts} hit the river. Altergott moved in to put Teltscher at risk for about 30,000, and Teltscher called.

Altergott showed {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for trips. Teltscher mucked, and the dealer turned over {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} per tournament rules.

Meanwhile, Dzmitry Urbanovich, the fast-rising Polish player who has taken the European Poker Tour by storm in recent months, entered the tournament.

Philbort Looking to Repeat and Reclaim Top Spot on German Money List

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Philipp Gruissem
Philipp Gruissem

Last year, Philipp Gruissem topped a 214-entry field to win the 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €25,000 High Roller for €993,963. At the time it moved him atop the German all-time money list, though he currently sits second a little less than a million behind Tobias Reinkemeier.

The man known as "Philbort" is in action today looking to defend his title, and if all goes according to plan, recapturing the top spot on the German leaderboard. There's still a long way to go, but Gruissem's chances just improved thanks to a double through Steven Zhou.

We missed the action, but we know that Gruissem doubled holding the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on a {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} against Zhou, who had a straight with {10-}{j-}.

Vogelsang Misreads, Busts Duthie

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We found Christoph Vogelsang tanking in the big blind, having made it 8,000 to go and been shoved on by John Duthie in the small blind. The European Poker Tour founder had about 40,000, and Vogelsang thought things over for awhile before Duthie called the clock. He apologized but said he thought it was warranted. About midway through the countdown, Vogelsang called.

Duthie: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Vogelsang: {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Duthie was ahead, but it was Vogelsang taking the pot as {3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{j-Clubs} left the dealer's hand.

"Good call," Duthie said.

Vogelsang smiled and apologized for the beat.

"No, no it's alright," Duthie said. "S*** happens."

Vogelsang said he thought Duthie had a small pair due to the speed of the shove.
