Grafton Flops Trips, Gets Paid

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante

Dominik Nitsche opened under the gun to 700. Andreas Hoivold called, Marco Frenken called, and Sam Grafton called from the big blind. The flop was {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and both Grafton and Nitsche checked. Hoivold bet 900, Frenken folded, Grafton check-raised to 2,200, Nitsche folded, and Hoivold called.

'SamSquid' led out 4,100 on the {J-Spades} turn and got a call. On the {J-Hearts} river, Grafton fired 6,200 and once again Hoivold made the call.

Grafton showed {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a full house, and his Norwegian opponent mucked.

Steve O'Dwyer's All-in Gets Through

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

A player in early position raised to 750, and got one caller before Steve O'Dwyer three-bet to 3,700 from the small blind. The big blind folded and the initial raiser then four-bet to 7,500. The caller folded and O'Dwyer made the call.

The three players checked the flop and turn of {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} before O'Dwyer capped his cards with two 25-value chips, and moved the rest all in. It was around 8,000, so just under half pot, and his opponent thought long and hard, checking and re-checking his cards before folding.

Varnell Gives Up The River

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante

On a {Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, Craig Varnell had 2,500 in front of him, and Pavel Veksler, a PokerStars qualifier from Israël, called the bet. The turn was the {6-Hearts}, prompting a quick 5,800 bet from Varnell. Veksler called again.

Varnell, an EPT side event winner and fresh off a six-figure score in America, checked the {9-Clubs} river, and quickly folded to a 9,300 bet from Veksler.

Mike McDonald vs Victor Bogdanov

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante

Dario Sammartino opened to 700 and got two callers in Victor Bogdanov on the button and Mike McDonald in the big blind.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and McDonald checked to Sammartino who bet 1,300. Bogdanov called and McDonald then check-raised to 4,500. Both Bogdanov and McDonald called. The turn was the {3-Clubs} and this time it checked to Bogdanov who bet 9,000. McDonald called and Sammartino folded.

The river was a fourth club, the {k-Clubs} and both players checked. McDonald turned over a flush with {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, but Bogdanov had a higher flush (albeit not the highest one), with {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Davidi Kitai Struggling Midway Through Day 1a

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

The small blind limped and Davidi Kitai checked his big blind. The flop came {j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the small blind lead for 400 and Kitai called. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and this time Kitai's opponent checked and the Belgian bet 800. His opponent called.

The river was the {3-Spades} and it was checked to Kitai again and this time he bet 1,500. His opponent quickly called but mucked when he saw that Kitai had rivered a straight with {6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Kitai is still struggling for chips, with less than half a starting stack towards the start of level five.

Bart Fergiatakis' EPT Gift

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Bart Fergiatakis is currently sitting at 75,000, courtesy of what he described as an "EPT-gift." According to Fergiatakis, he was holding {K-}{J-} when he saw a {A-}{Q-}{10-} flop with two other players. After a bet from Steve O'Dwyer, another player shoved for 50,000, a huge overbet. Fergiatakis called 40,000 all in and got shown {8-}{6-} for no pair, no draw.

"The table is still talking about it," laughed Fergiatakis.

Fergiatakis is also one of the qualifiers who visited PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu's workshop this morning. "The positivity of Negreanu stayed with me the most," Fergiatakis remarked. "Never tell bad beat stories, focus on the positive things. He's almost a positivity guru!"

Alexandru Papazian

In a blind battle, Romania's Alexandru Papazian bet 1,200 on a {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, and Rainer Kempe called. On the {10-Spades} turn, the bearded Romanian bet 3,800 and got another call from the German High Roller.

The river was the {2-Diamonds}, which prompted Papazian to move all in for 9,475. Kempe gave it around twenty seconds of thought, then mucked his hand.
