Sammartino Takes From Moraes

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Dario Sammartino opened to 16,000 from middle position and Ibrahim Ghassan called from the hijack along with Rafael Moraes in the small blind.

The flop fell {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Moraes checked. Sammartino bet 18,000 and Ghassan folded but Moraes check-called. The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and was checked through to the {q-Hearts} river. Moraes checked for a third time and Sammartino threw in a bet of 75,000. Moraes tank-called. Sammartino tabled {q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for tens full of queens and Moraes mucked.

Ayras Opts to Extend Bubble

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Pauli Ayras opened to 20,000 on the button and Robert Heidorn three-bet all in for around 145,000 from the big blind.

"I swear I want to call," said Ayras. "But I don't want the bubble to end. So that's the only reason I might not call."

Ayras tanked for a while, and threw out a time extension before folding. Heidorn let him pick one to turn over, and Ayras turned over the {a-Clubs}.

"Spot on read," said Ayras as the bubble continued.

In a hand relayed to us by the Italian, Dario Sammartino opened from the button and called a three-bet from Felipe Ramos in the big blind.

The flop came {k-}{7-}{9-} and the pair checked. Ramos shoved the {q-} turn for his last three big blinds and Sammartino called.

Khamidullin Eliminates Adams to Take the Lead

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Timur Khamidullin was sitting on the largest stack at his table by quite some margin and constantly applying bubble pressure every hand. Khamidullin moved all in and Timothy Adams called off his short stack of 58,000.

Timur Khamidullin: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Timothy Adams: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Adams was still in position to double up. The {5-Diamonds} on the turn brought some straight and Patrik Antonius commented from the rail.

"Everyone loves a chop pot." But instead of a chop, the {a-Spades} hit the river and Khamidullin hit the one card that could eliminate Adams from the tournament.

Miles' Shove Gets Through

On a flop reading {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and with about 30,000 in the middle, Juan Carlos Vecino bet 20,000 from the small blind and Tony Miles moved all in from the big blind for about 70,000. Vecino snap-folded.

Ayras into Chip Lead

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

On a {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades} river, Robert Heidorn was tanking after Pauli Ayras had bet 200,000 into a pot approaching that amount.

Heidorn eventually called, but mucked when Ayras showed {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair.

Heidorn had clearly been in the tank for quite a while, as he threw in four time extensions to be left with under 20 big blinds.

Konnikova Eliminated by Van Zadelhoff

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova

Shyngis Satubayev opened to 16,000 from middle position and Steven Van Zadelhoff called from the hijack along with Maria Konnikova on the button, Mustapha Kanit in the small blind, and Andreas Berggren in the big blind.

The dealer fanned a flop of {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Berggren and Satubayev checked. Van Zadelhoff bet 27,000 and Konnikova responded by moving all in for about 118,000. Van Zadelhoff was the only caller.

Maria Konnikova: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Steven Van Zadelhoff: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Konnikova had nines but Van Zadelhoff had flopped a set of eights. The {4-Spades} turn and {q-Hearts} river filled up the board and Van Zadelhoff raked in the pot, eliminating Konnikova from the tournament.
