Seidel Catches Lefrancois' Bluff to Double Up

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel opened in early position and Pascal Lefrancois three-bet from the cutoff. Seidel called.

Seidel checked on the flop of {5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Lefrancois continued for 17,000. Seidel called. Seidel checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn and Lefrancois sized up to 33,000. Seidel again called.

Seidel checked a third time on the {q-Clubs} river and Lefrancois unloaded the clip by moving all in with Seidel covered.

Seidel let out a sigh and asked the dealer to spread the pot as he considered calling off with his last 86,000. After using a time extension, Seidel put out a stack for a call.

Lefrancois sheepishly revealed a bluff with {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for ace-high and Seidel showed {a-Spades}{j-Spades} to win the pot and double up with second pair after making the big call.

"Nice call!" commented Paul Phua to Seidel's right.

Lefrancois was left with just around 10,000 and was eliminated a few hands later.

Pardo Eliminated by Mateos in Spanish Battle

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

Stephen Chidwick opened to 8,500 in early position, Adrian Mateos flat-called on the button, and Juan Pardo moved all in for 20,500 in the small blind. Chidwick called and Mateos announced "all in", causing Chidwick to muck his hand fairly quickly.

Juan Pardo: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

It was a Spaniard versus Spaniard race in Barcelona, and the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop vaulted Mateos ahead. The {2-Clubs} turn and {j-Clubs} river failed to provide a seven, and Pardo wished the table good luck as he made his exit.

Phua Chips Up

Level 15 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Paul Phua raised to 8,000 from under the gun and Francisco Benitez flat-called from early position to get the hand heads-up.

Phua bet 10,000 on the flop of {q-Hearts}{k-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Benitez called. Phua then checked on the {2-Spades} turn and Benitez checked back.

The river brought the {8-Spades} and Phua bet 38,000. Benitez checked his cards and used a time extension before folding.

Benitez Binks to Bust Bujtas

Level 15 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Laszlo Bujtas
Laszlo Bujtas

Francisco Benitez opened to 8,000 under the gun, Laszlo Bujtas moved all in for 39,500 on the button, and Benitez begrudgingly called.

"I don't like it," remarked Benitez as hands were revealed.

Laszlo Bujtas: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Francisco Benitez: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

The dealer spread the {j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop to vault Benitez ahead as he hit his three-outer.

"Now I like it," reacted Benitez.

The {3-Diamonds} turn and {6-Diamonds} river failed to improve Bujtas, and the Hungarian made his exit from the tournament.

Hecklen Busts as Pardo Cracks Kings to Nearly Triple — Again

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Henrik Hecklen open-jammed a stack of about 30,000 from the cutoff and Artur Martirosian re-shoved in the small blind. Juan Pardo snapped in the big blind with a stack of 46,500.

Henrik Hecklen: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}
Juan Pardo: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Artur Martirosian: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Martirosian's kings were still ahead after the flop of {9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Pardo tossed his queens toward the dealer in as he anticipated his elimination. However, the dealer then put out the {q-Diamonds} to give him the lead with a set and the {a-Spades} on the river didn't change things for Pardo to nearly triple and for Hecklen to bust ahead of the two-table redraw.

"How do you do that?" Hecklen asked Pardo.

Antonius Eliminated; Pardo Triples

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius

Artur Martirosian opened to 7,000 in middle position, Patrik Antonius jammed for 22,500 in the hijack, Juan Pardo moved in his 14,000 chips in the cutoff, and action folded back to Martirosian who called.

Juan Pardo: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Patrik Antonius: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Artur Martirosian: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Pardo was in good shape with the only pocket pair, and was in even better shape on the {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop. Antonius, however, needed to improve to stay alive, but the {9-Spades} and {4-Spades} completed the board and the premier Finnish poker player made his exit, while Pardo secured the short-stacked triple.

Hecklen Doubles Through Martirosian

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Henrik Hecklen open-jammed a stack of 13,500 from the cutoff and Artur Martirosian three-bet from the small blind to get the hand heads-up.

Henrik Hecklen: {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Artur Martirosian: {a-Clubs}{4-Spades}

The flop landed {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} to give Hecklen the lead with a pair of eights and the remaining runout of {2-Spades}{8-Spades} improved him to trips to double up.
