Juanda Runs Into Aces to Be Eliminated

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

John Juanda open-shoved his short stack of around 45,000 from the cutoff and was called by Rui Neves Ferreira in the big blind.

John Juanda: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Rui Neves Ferreira: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The 2015 EPT Barcelona Main Event champion had run into aces and he let out a sigh as the board landed {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds} to improve Ferreira to a set. The board then finished out {9-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} to give Juanda a meaningless two pair and mark his elimination.

"Two pair no good?" Juanda joked before wishing good luck to table mate and fellow Asia-Pacific native David Yan.

Lofberg Picks Off Zaskodny's Bluff

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

In a single raised pot on a {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop, Lukas Zaskodny checked his small blind, Jacob Amsellem checked in the big blind, and Klas Lofberg bet 5,500 in early position.

Zaskodny then check-raised to 16,500, getting a fold from Amsellem, but a call from Lofberg.

On the {j-Hearts} turn, Zaskodny bet 30,000 and was again called by Lofberg.

The river brought the {a-Clubs} and Zaskodny now checked. Lofberg checked back.

Zaskodny turned over {7-Spades}{4-Spades} for an aborted bluff, while Lofberg showed {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} for the winner to boost his stack early in the day.

The Battle of the Ambassadors

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Two PokerStars ambassadors got into a raising war at Table 24 in a heads-up pot on a board of {8-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

Previous action was unclear, but Andre Akkari was in middle position and bet 43,000 on the river into the pot of more than 100,000. Ramon Colillas, meanwhile, put in a raise to 169,000 from the big blind. Akkari used a time bank and ultimately folded, sending a big pot to the Spaniard early in the day.

O'Dwyer Picks Up Aces to Stack Morales

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Steve O'Dwyer opened to 5,000 in early position and Gustavo Morales defended from the big blind.

Gustavo checked on the flop of {2-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and O'Dwyer bet 6,500. Gustavo called. Gustavo checked again on the {j-Clubs} turn and O'Dwyer bet 11,000. Gustavo check-raised all in with a stack of about 30,000 and O'Dwyer snap-called.

Gustavo Morales: {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Steve O'Dwyer: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Morales had flopped a pair and turned a flush draw, but he was still behind the aces of O'Dwyer, whose hand held up as the {k-Hearts} bricked off on the river to mark Morales' elimination.

Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

With over 40,000 in the pot on a {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop, Andre Marques bet 27,500 from the big blind. Dario Sammartino called under the gun and the duo saw the {4-Hearts} on the turn.

Both players now checked, and the {j-Diamonds} hit the river. After using a pair of time banks, Marques bet 35,000, which after using a time bank of his own Sammartino called.

Marques showed {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, while Sammartino showed {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} for the superior ace-high to earn a pot that takes his stack to 300,000.
