It's a Record Setting Field!

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

The previous record field size of 1,988 from the 2019 edition of the EPT Barcelona Main Event has fallen.

With the tournament clock now showing 1,252 entrants following the break, the combined total from both opening flights of this year's event is 2,001, surpassing the 2019 total.

With six more levels today and registration open until the start of Day 2, it's now just a matter of how far the previous record falls.

Petrone Slowly Building

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

Ramiro Petrone raised to 1,200 from the hijack and [Removed:564] three-bet to 5,500 from the big blind. Petrone added the remainder to call.

The dealer spread a flop of {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} that was checked through to the {4-Hearts} turn. [Removed:565] bet 3,500 and Pterone called.

The {6-Hearts} filled up the river and both players opted to check. [Removed:565] turned over {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} but Petrone showed {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades} to win the pot with jacks and fours.

Brar Headed Back to the Registration Desk

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

Jaspal Brar raised to 1,200 in the cutoff and was met with a three-bet to 3,200 by Istvan Birizdo.

Brar then jammed for just over 20,000 more and Birizdo called.

Jaspal Brar: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}
Istvan Birizdo: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The board came {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, keeping Birizdo's ace-queen ahead to send Brar to the rail for now, but he did mention he was going to use his one reentry.

Madani's Bluff Doesn't Get Through Ballestero's Full House

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

Oliver Saccucci raised to 1,200 under the gun and [Removed:521] called from the hijack along with David Ballestero on the button and Hossein Madani in the small blind.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and action was checked to Ballestero who bet 1,500. Madani and Slimane were the only callers.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and action was checked again to Ballestero who bet 2,500. This time, Madani check-raised to 6,500. Slimane folded but Ballestero stuck around with a call.

The {5-Hearts} completed the board and Madani moved all in for 17,000. Ballestero with 12,200 behind, snap-called for less. Madani turned over {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a bluff and Ballestero turned over {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} to win the pot with sixes full of sevens.

Biz Doubles Through Chiva

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

We missed the preflop action but arrived in time to see Mustafa Biz all-in for about 33,000 from middle position against Gabriel Chiva who was on the cutoff.

Mustafa Biz: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

Chiva was comfortably ahead, but the flop came {q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} giving Biz a set of sixes. The {j-Spades} turn and {8-Hearts} river completed the board and Biz doubled up.
