Life Outside Poker: Boston Rob Shares Story of Costa Rica Poker Raid w/ Daniel Negreanu & Cheryl Hines

Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the 21st episode, Connor speaks with Survivor legend Boston Rob, aka Rob Mariano, about growing up near Fenway Park, learning poker at the age of 6, studying psychology at Boston University, applying for Survivor and winning Season 22, his recent appearance on Deal or No Deal Island and filming an upcoming season of The Traitors.

Boston Rob also revealed a story about Costa Rican authorities raiding a mansion known to host high-stakes poker games during a 2006 filming that included Daniel Negreanu, Josh Arieh, David Williams, Michael Mizrachi and actress Cheryl Hines.

"(Gambling mogul) Calvin (Ayre) had a big party at the house, and they came in guns drawn," he said. "And we were fine, but we all had to stay at the party until they checked our passports and everything. I think it was a little bit of a shakedown. But we had a good weekend."

Konopelko Takes Down a Three-Bet Pot

Gareth Devereux raised from middle position to 2,000 and Andrei Konopelko three-bet the big blind to 8,000. Devereux called.

They went to a flop of K♥9♦9♥ where Konopelko continued with a bet of 8,500, and Devereux quickly folded.

Konopelko has no less than twelve EPT final tables on his poker resume, which includes one victory in a Hyper Turbo event at EPT Monte Carlo in 2018. A quarter of those final tables came right here in Prague!

Zawadzki Busts in Two Hands

In the first of two consecutive hands, Dean Hutchinson moved all in from the button for 8,600 and Marcin Zawadzki called in the big blind with a slightly bigger stack. The cards were turned.

Zawadzki had his opponent dominated, but the board ran out 9♦8♥9♣5♦J♣ to give Hutchinson a straight on the turn. He won the pot and Zawadzki was left with just 7,000.

The next hand, Simon Wiciak raised to 2,000 from late position, then Peter Jaksland three-bet to 6,000 from the button. Zawadzki moved all in for his last 7,000 and both other players called.

Wiciak and Jaksland checked back the 10♣K♥J♣ flop, then then turn came the 6♠ and Wiciak bet 1,000. Jaksland raised to 5,000 and Wiciak folded.

Zawadzki had 9♦9♣ for a pair of nines, but Jaksland had K♠10♠ for two pair, kings and tens. The river was the 6♠ and Jaksland held, which busted Zawadzki from the tournament.

Nicola Grieco raised to 2,500 under the gun and Dennis Magro defended out of the big blind.

Magro led out for 3,000 on the 10♣J♣9♥ flop and Grieco called.

The two players checked the 7♦ turn and the 4♣ came on the river. Margo checked, and Grieco bet 5,000. Margo quickly called and was shown K♠K♦ by Grieco. Margo mucked and Grieco pulled in the pot.

A three-way all-in and call situation occurred with Akin Tuna in the small blind at risk for 14,000 against Hugo Baudry with 50,900 and Adrian Mack who had the biggest stack.

Baudry saved himself by flopping a pair on 4♣9♠10♥. Tuna was even more lucky hitting a straight with the Q♦ turn to triple up after the J♥ river.

Following an under-the-gun raise, Simon Brandstrom three-bet to 4,600 from the next seat, then Thomas DeRooij moved all in from small blind for 18,500. The original raiser folded and Brandstrom moved all in. DeRooij called with the covering stack and players flipped their cards.

Klein check-called a bet of 1,500 from Donato on the 10♦10♥Q♠ flop.

The K♥ rolled off on the turn and both players checked to see the K♦ hit the river. Klein led out for 4,000 and Donato called.

Klein turned over J♦9♦ for a straight and took down the pot.

Kraous Sends Neugebauer Packing

Max Neugebauer was seen getting up from his seat and heading toward the exit after a hand with Anton Kraous.

Neugebauer got his remaining chips into the middle with 9♠9♦ and couldn't overcome the Q♣Q♥ of Kraous after a clean runout.

After that hand, Kraous' stack sat at around 160,000 as the final break of the night approaches.

Locquet Finds a Two-Outer Against Lauck; Kabrhel Entertains the Table

Romain Locquet shoved his short stack of 2,000 into the middle and Martin Kabrhel called on the button. Jonas Lauck then shoved for around 20,000, with the action on Kabrhel.

"Pass," said Kabrhel, and he showed Q♠10♦ to the table.

"Ok, call," joked Kabrhel.

Locquet spiked a set on the 8♥K♥2♥ flop to take the lead, but Lauck did have a flush draw to fall back on. The 9♦ turn changed nothing, and neither did the J♦ river, which meant Locquet quadrupled up!

"Ah see, I win. You pressured me, dealer. If you let me do my job, I would call and win," said Kabrhel with a smile.
