Day 1a is a Wrap

Royal Dublin Society
Royal Dublin Society
Play has concluded for the day and a little over half the field will return on Thursday for Day 2 play. Our coverage of Day 1 action here at the Royal Dublin Society will resume tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. local time. We anticipate a slightly larger field tomorrow and expect to see a number of top pros turn out, including Internet superstar Annette ‘Annette_15’ Obrestad, fresh off of her WSOP Europe Main Event victory, last year’s EPT Dublin victor Roland de Wolfe, and PokerStars pro Katja Thater, who won a WSOP bracelet this past summer.

We'll have the official end of Day 1a chip counts posted shortly.

Tune in tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. local time for our continued coverage of Day 1, live from the PokerStars EPT in Dublin, Ireland.

Change of Plans

Rather than play out the remaining 7:38 minutes on the clock, tournament director Thomas Kremser has opted to have each table play four more hands to wrap up the evening.

The decision was well-received by most players, as it eliminates the potential for stalling.

Len Takes One Down!

Len Collin
Len Collin
One of the last few Irishmen left in the field, Len Collin, just took down a nice pot. There was 4,000 in the pot preflop and the dealer put up {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}. His opponent bet 3,000 after Len checked. Len made the call and then pushed on the {8-Clubs} turn.

His opponent took a long, long time to fold but Len was not going to give away any tells; he is an actor and screenwriter in his day job. Eventually, after looking at the clock repeatedly and recounting his meagre stack, the opponent mucked and Len proudly showed {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the semibluff.

54 Players Remaining

With just 30 minutes left to play on Day 1a, 52 players are still alive and the average chip stack is 25,700.

Henric Strath is currently at the top of the leaderboard, with a little over 71,000 in chips.

Chop! Chop!

Andy Black

Just after the restart, Andy Black called a raise to 1,200 by a mid-position player and the small blind also came along for the ride.

The flop dropped {K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

The raiser bet 3,000 and only Andy called.

Turn: {A-Diamonds}

2,000 bet, Andy called.

River: {2-Clubs}

4,000 bet, Andy called.

Raiser showed {A-Spades}{6-Spades}. "Chop it up," said Andy as he flips {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

"Nice call on the flop," added his opponent.
