Moneymaker Gets Value

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

A player raised to 700 in middle position and got two calls, but Chris Moneymaker put the squeeze on with 3,000 from the big blind. The opener folded, as did the hijack, but the cutoff came along, seeing a {3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. Moneymaker saw his 2,100 continuation-bet called, and both players were quick to check the {6-Spades} turn. Moneymaker bet 4,000 on the {5-Spades} river and got a quick call.

"Can't beat a king," he said, tossing {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} into the middle.

Neither could his opponent, as he mucked.

"Hockey" Hock sweats his all in.

We found Hockey Hock with {a-}{a-} preflop, covering an opponent on the button who held {q-}{q-} and got his stack in. The board ran out clean for Hock, and he eliminated the player, who busted out for the second time this tournament.

Players are on break.

HPO Grantville

A player at Table 12 is letting his table know the lay of the land.

"Welcome to Hollywood!" he said. "It's the check-call capital of the world. They might just change the name to Check-Call Casino."

"Are You Just Being Ugly?"

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Chris Moneymaker bet 400 from the big blind and got two calls on a {3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop, and he bet another 800 on the {2-Clubs} turn. Tiwaun Hawkins called in the hijack, and the player on the button folded. Moneymaker checked the {8-Spades} river, and Hawkins bet 2,000.

"Are you just being ugly?" Moneymaker asked. "Or do you actually have like, king-queen?"

He tossed in a call moments later, and Hawkins showed {k-Spades}{2-Spades}.

Jason Rogers

Small blind Jason Rogers bet 2,300 into a pot of more than 13,000 with the board having come {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}.

"That card killed me," the big blind announced, agonizing for awhile before calling for most of her stack.

Rogers showed {q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for threes full.

"You run like God," his opponent said as the mucked.

Snook Makes One Quit

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We found a player with 6,300 in front of him in middle position preflop, and Jerry Snook was thinking it over with a stack of about 5,000 more on the button.

"F*** it," he said, putting his stack in.

The blinds both folded, and the raiser said something about Snook putting on an act.

"I'm sure you've got me," he said, calling with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and then seeing Snook show {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. "Oh, I've got you."

Chris Moneymaker said he folded {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}, and the flop came {10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs}, leaving Snook with two outs. He found one of those outs on the {q-Hearts} turn, and the player with ace-king bricked the {9-Hearts} river. He pounded the table forcefully and cursed, heading out of the room despite the fact that he still had about 1,500 left.

"One for the good guys," Snook said as he dragged the pot.

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Brian Morrow
Brian Morrow

Brian Morrow just finished off the player whose queens he cracked before the break, putting the player at risk preflop for 5,650 from the small blind.

"You have a pair?" the all-in player asked, showing {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}.

Morrow had no pair, but a dominating {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The board rolled out {6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs}, leaving the ace-queen best.
