Odds and Ends
Zach "Umbrella Man" Hall is sitting on 9,500.
Dennis Phillips told me that he has 12,000 in chips. He was moved to Roberto Brenes' table.
Roberto Brenes (Humberto's son) lost a pot with . The board read . Roberto checked and his opponent bet 3,000 on the river. Brenes made a crying call with two pair, aces and sevens. His opponent tabled for trip sevens and he won the pot. Roberto slipped to under 9,000.
Eddie Sabat, APPT Macau Champion, took a hit and his stack is under 4,000.
And what's a poker tournament without Humberto Brenes crooning to his table?
Leaning Tower
It's still way too early for any player to have enough chips to feel comfortable. And one player is adding to the sense of unease by stacking his chips into one tall tower, which gently sways back and forth every time someone walks past. Other players at the table have slid cautious looks his way, not so much out of chip-envy but because they're wondering when the tower's gonna come a-tumblin' down.
A Trio of Stars
Dabul seems to be doing the best of the three during the initial two levels. Her stack is around 11,000. Despite losing almost 90 percent of his chips on one hand, Fernandez has since doubled up and is closing in on 3,000. Akkari lost a couple of small pots and has slipped to under 9,000.
Joe Hachem Takes an Early Hit
Ramos Loses "Sick" Hand; Gianelli Surges to 29K
The board read . Both players got all their money in on the turn. Felipe Ramos held pocket eights for a set against Vincenzo Gianelli's and top two pair. However, a spiked on the river and Gianelli dragged the pot with a bigger full house. Ramos was eliminated and Gianelli's stack is around 29,000.
As one member of the Costa Rican media said to me afterwords, "So sick!"
