Adkins Can't Buy It

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

After a player raised to 2,100 from under the gun, Hobart Adkins made the call on the button to see the flop come down {10-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Both players checked.

The turn added the {A-Diamonds} to the board and the first player checked. Adkins bet 3,000 and his opponent made the call.

The river completed the board with the {6-Spades} and action checked over to Adkins again. He bet 3,000 in another attempt to steal the pot. His opponent made the call.

"I got nothing," said Adkins as he turned over the {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. His opponent held the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

Adkins lost the hand and dropped back to 73,000 in chips.

Arias, Stern in Trouble

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Jorge Arias and Maria Stern are both clinging to life as we approach the last break of the night. Stern has slipped all the way to 9,500; Arias is only barely better at about 17,000. Arias raised a recent pot to 2,000 from under the gun and was called by both blinds. The big blind led into Arias for 2,800 on a flop of {6-Spades}{j-Spades}{k-Hearts} and induced a quick fold from the Team Online player. He'll have 17 big blinds to work with when the tournament returns from the break for Level 9.

Brenes Attacks

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

Action folded to Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes on the button and he raised three times the big blind to 2,400. After the small blind folded, the big blind fought back with a three-bet to 6,200. Brenes made the call.

The flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and the big blind checked. Like a shark, Brenes could sense the blood in the water and attacked, betting 8,000. His opponent folded and Brenes showed the {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for just a gutshot straight draw and an eight-high flush draw. He's up to 48,000 in chips now.

Pereira Shows an Ace

From middle position, Jorge Pereira limped in for 800. The player on the button raised to 2,100 and everyone folded back over to Pereira. He made the call.

The flop went check, check after the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} fell. The turn paired the board with the {J-Diamonds} and Pereira fired 4,000. His opponent mucked and Pereira scooped the pot showing the {A-Diamonds}.

Severino Raises Flop and Wins More Chips

Bruno De Oliveira Severino has been steadily picking up chips all day long. He just added another nice pot to his stack after taking one down on the flop. Going to the flop, there was approximately 5,500 chips in the middle. The first three community cards came down {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Severino's opponent bet 3,600. Severino raised to 9,200 and ended the hand.

Etter Misfires

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
David Etter
David Etter

David Etter's stack is taking a beating this level. He's down to 77,000 after doubling up an opponent. That player opened for 2,400 from the button, with Etter defending from the big blind. On a flop of {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, Etter checked. The button player bet 2,800 and was met with a check-raise to 7,200 from Etter. The button tanked for about two minutes before shoving all in for a total of 31,400. Etter cut calling chips off of his stack, counted down his remaining chips, and then put the calling chips across the betting line.

Etter: {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Each player made top pair, but Etter's 10 was out-kicked by his opponent's queen. The turn and river were both aces, allowing Etter's opponent to claim the pot and double up to 69,000.

Bauer Power

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Frankly, the number of huge stacks in the room seems a bit ridiculous for this point in the tournament. The latest name to top the counts is Joao Bauer, who weighs in at 144,000. He just relieved the opponent to his left of 30,000 chips, first by raising pre-flop to 1,700. On a flop of {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Bauer led out for 3,000, then called a raise to 9,500. Bauer check-called 10,000 more on the {9-Clubs} turn and another 10,000 on the {6-Hearts} river. His opponent showed down {6-Spades}{7-Hearts} for two pair, sixes and fives. Bauer tabled two tens, {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, to collect the pot.

Salles Finally Back to Par

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

It's been a brutal first seven levels for Gualter Salles, but he's hung tough and is finally back to an average stack. He was in the small blind for a recent hand that folded all the way to the button player, who shoved for 5,800. Salles asked for a count before calling with {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}. He was slightly behind the button's {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. It was a river king on a board of {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs} that gave Salles the pot and knocked his opponent out of the tournament.

Salles now has about 35,000 in chips.
