Rens Feenstra Leads After Day 1a of the 2015 Master Classics of Poker

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Rens Feenstra
Rens Feenstra

For the first time ever, the Main Event of the Master Classics of Poker provided two starting days. On the first, 100 players ponied up the €4,250 buy-in, either via direct entry, reentry, or after winning their seat in one of the satellites at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. After nine levels of 60 minutes each, the field was whittled down to 44 survivors and it was a tight race for the overnight lead.

Ultimately, it was 2013 MCOP €1,500 Reentry and 2012 MCOP High Roller champion Rens Feenstra who claimed the top spot with 149,100 in chips. He was closely followed by EPT11 Malta Main Event winner Jean Montury (145,000), Wouter Beltz (144,800), Georgios Zisimopoulos (141,800), and Sampo Ryynanen (133,900).

Other notables going through to Day 2 included Govert Metaal (128,200), Przemyslaw Piotrowski (102,200), 2011 MCOP Main Event champion David Boyaciyan (100,200), Thomas Muehloecker (95,200), Daniel Dvoress (73,900), David "MissOracle" Yan (60,100), Pascal Hartmann (57,900), Jason Wheeler (55,800), defending champion Ruben Visser (50,900), 2013 MCOP Main Event winner Noah Boeken (48,500), Juha Helppi (41,600), and Clyde Tjauw Foe (30,800).

Among those that will have to return for Day 1b after busting in their first attempt(s) were familiar faces such as Vlado Banicevic, Nikolaus Teichert, Richard Milne, Senh Ung, Mateusz Moolhuizen, Tom Hall, Marcel Vonk, Raoul Refos, Hossein Ensan, Martin Finger, Faraz Jaka, Matthias de Meulder, former November Niner Jorryt van Hoof, Surinder Sunar, and Dominic van Embden.

Two more side events determined winners today; Tobias Peters won the €500 Speed Event after coming second to van Embden last night in the €1,500 Reentry Event, and Kuljinder Sidhu took down the €10,000 High Roller for a payday of €161,172. The duo is expected in the starting field for Tuesday's Day 1b at 14:00 local time and the overall field size will be boosted significantly.

Make sure to tune back in when the PokerNews Live Reporting team brings further updates from the event up until a winner is crowned on Friday.

Smit Busts with a Bluff

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Dennis Smit
Dennis Smit

Denis Smit defended his big blind against a raise by David Boyaciyan to 1,200. On the flop {10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Spades}, Smit check-raised from 1,600 to 4,350 and was called. Smit then led the {Q-Hearts} turn for 6,400 to receive a call by the 2011 MCOP champion. The {10-Clubs} fell on the river and Smit moved all in for 31,250, sending Boyaciyan into the think tank for a fair amount of time.

Once Boyaciyan made the call, it was a great one with the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} as Smit was caught bluffing with {K-Spades}{2-Spades} for a busted straight and flush draw.

Dvoress Busts van Hoof

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Jorryt van Hoof
Jorryt van Hoof

After a raise and three callers, Jorryt van Hoof squezed all in for 14,900 out of the big blind. Only Daniel Dvoress looked him up and they turned over their cards:

Dvoress: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
van Hoof: {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and the Dutchman will surely reenter either today or tomorrow.

Stuer Busts Vonk and van Leeuwen

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Niels van Leeuwen
Niels van Leeuwen

The seat of Marcel Vonk was empty and he had just purchased the second bullet shortly before the end of level four. Rens Feenstra confirmed that it was Julian Stuer who had received the chips and the German was also involved into a hand with Niels van Leeuwen as well.

Until the {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} river, a pot of around 8,000 chips emerged and Stuer pushed all in. Van Leeuwen had around 16,600 chips behind and eventually called for his tournament life only to muck immediately when Stuer showed him the {6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a flopped straight.

The bustout of Vonk was a copy of the situation according to Stuer, who jammed the river of a queen-high board for effectively 15,000 into a pot of 6,000. Vonk called with pocket aces only to see the German turn over {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flush.

The van Embden Exit Details

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Dominic van Embden
Dominic van Embden

Dominic van Embden had lost half of his stack early on and then was down all the way to just 11,000 chips. He three-bet with pocket kings and was called to see a flop of {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. The continuation bet of the Dutchman was raised and he got it in against the {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs} of his opponent. The turn was a blank but the {10-Clubs} on the river completed a flush for the other player in the hand.

Zisimopoulos Says Thank You

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Georgios Zisimopoulos
Georgios Zisimopoulos

Georgios Zisimopoulos raised to 400 from the hijack and the player on the button three-bet to 1,000, getting called by the big blind and the Freek. On the {6-}{4-}{3-} flop with one club, all three players check. The {K-Clubs} came on the turn and the player in the big blind checked. Zisimopoulos bet 800 and the player in the hijack then raised to 5,000, receiving calls from both opponents.

The {8-Clubs} on the river filled up the board and Zisimopoulos fired 14,000, snap-calling the shove of the opponent in the hijack with the {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the nut flush. He was gifted the stack by the opponent with {K-}{Q-} for just top pair.

Edit: It turned out to be René Pluijm, who had won the celebrity SNG earlier to get the Main Event ticket and usually is a chef cook.
