Wim Anne Wesselink told us about a series of hands that lead to his demise.
Wesselink had a 150,000-stack just 30 minutes or so ago when he lost a flip for 20 big blinds with against . After some other small pots, he was down to 95,000.
He opened the hijack for 4,400 holding . The big blind made it a massive 27,000 to go. Wesselink wasn't too happy about it but shoved anyway. His opponent called with and Wesselink did not catch up.
After that hand, he was down to 14,000 but doubled soon after. In the end, though, it wasn't enough as he ran his last 12 big blinds with into a loose player with . Wesselink eliminated.
Lars Bonding opened under the gun for 4,500 and Ole Schemion 3-bet to 16,000 from the hijack. The big blind cold 4-bet to 51,000 and Bonding shoved all in. Schemion shoved over the top and the big blind called.
Ole Schemion:
Lars Bonding:
Big blind:
The board ran out and Schemion said his goodbyes while the other 2 chopped the pot.
While having dinner, Marijn van Puffelen shared the news that he was in the possession of a 400,000-stack. With our notepad nearby anyway, we asked him some details.
Michiel Brosky opened under the gun for 3,500 and from middle position, Marijn van Puffelen called. The cutoff 3-bet to 9,600 and Brosky folded, Van Puffelen called.
Van Puffelen check-called 11,600 on and check-called another 26,000 on an offsuit on the turn. The river was another and Van Puffelen check-called the all-in that followed for about 80,000.
Van Puffelen showed for quads and his opponent had .
Govert Metaal limped under the gun and his neighbor Jean-Philippe Schoonbrood under the gun plus over limped.
The player next to them raised and Zhong Chen 3-bet to 10,000. When the action got back to Metaal, he 4-bet to 38,500. Schoonbrood wasn't backing down and shoved for 178,300. The action folded to Metaal who called all in for just less than that.
Jean-Philippe Schoonbrood:
Govert Metaal:
The biggest pot of the tournament was going to be a bad beat for Metaal: on the flop. The hit the turn and gave Metaal some hope but the on the river was the wrong kind of black card for him.
Metaal eliminated, Schoonbrood the owner of a monster stack.
Orpen Kisacikoglu was seen leaving the tournament area and was kind enough to explain what had happened upon our request.
The player under the gun plus one opened and the button called. Kisacikoglu over called from the big blind with suited and checked on with 2 hearts. The initial raiser checked as well and the button bet. Kisacikoglu called, the initial raiser called.
The same was seen on the turn as Kisacikoglu checked, the initial raiser checked, and the button bet (8,500 this time around). Both Kisacikoglu and the initial raiser called again.
Three-way to the offsuit river as Kisacikoglu and the initial raiser checked again. The button shoved and Kisacikoglu called. The initial raiser folded for top set. Kisacikoglu's straight proved no good as the button had for a flush.
