Level 10 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jeremy Ausmus

The second starting flight of the $5,300 NAPT Main Event at 2025 PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Las Vegas at Resorts World Las Vegas took place on Friday and featured what is likely the biggest poker cooler we'll see all year.

Day 1b drew 362 runners and included everyone from qualifiers to poker legends, and many of them bagged on their way to becoming the next NAPT champion. That includes Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel, PokerStars ambassador and chess pro Jen Shahade, television writer Matthew Salsberg and recent $50,000 Super High Roller runner-up Thomas Boivin.

Leading the 107 surviving players is American pro Shannon Shorr with 395,000, followed by 2023 GPI Player of the Year Bin Weng and Maryland's Diane Zimmerman.

Others who bagged include poker coach Jonathan Little, PokerNews Podcast co-host Ben Ludlow, Justin Young, Patrick Leonard, Leon Sturm, Ankit Ahuja, Gal Yifrach, and recent EPT Barcelona champion Stephen Song.

Chips Fly on Day 1b

The day kicked off with one table that included Bin Weng and Chance Kornuth agreeing to a round of straddles, and the action only picked up from there as a generational cooler took place shortly after dinner break.

The hand saw poker superstar Jeremy Ausmus making a Royal Flush to crush the quad aces of Harlan Karnofsky, the type of bad beat to turn someone away from the game forever. It mirrored an earlier cooler where Johan Schumacher flopped a full house only to lose most of his stack to the runner-runner quads of Pedro Gusmao.

There were other highlights on Day 1b, including Nick Palma making a bold but unsuccessful triple-barrel bluff, PokerNews MSPT Podcast host Kyna England making a frisky hero call with a wine glass by her side, and Romel Huelga cracking the queens of online poker legend Chris Moorman with a runner-runner flush.

Those who failed to bag in Day 1b include and England, Kristen Foxen, Michael Gathy, Landon Tice, PokerStars ambassador Caitlin Comeskey, and PokerNews Podcast Gold Pass winner Thomas Pierce, who fared well with the pros for a full day before busting in the final level.

Day 2 will kick off at noon local time on Level 11 with blinds of 1,000/1,500/1,500. Levels will increase from 60 minutes to 90 minutes in duration for the remainder of the tournament.

The event is scheduled to run for six days and will wrap up on Nov. 12.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team is on-site and ready to provide continued coverage of the NAPT Main Event at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Ahuja Goes for It All

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ankit Ahuja
Ankit Ahuja

The under-the-gun player raised to 2,500, Graeme Newman three-bet to 7,500 in the cutoff, and Ankit Ahuja cold four-bet to 15,000 on the button. Under the gun got out of the way and Newman called.

The flop came 655 and Newman check-called a bet of 11,000 from Ahuja. The turn fell the 8 and Newman check-called again, this time for 20,000.

On the 3 river, Newman checked for a third time and Ahuja moved all in for 57,500 to put himself at risk. Clearly faced with a tough decision, Newman went into the tank.

"Show me the bluff," said Newman as he tossed his cards into the muck.

Ahuja responded with a smirk.

"That's a smile that says bluff," muttered Newman.

Douglas Lee limped in from the hijack and Erik Seidel called in the cutoff as the small blind and big blind came along.

The blinds checked on the flop of 7K2 and Lee bet 2,300. Only Seidel called. Both players then checked on the Q turn.

Lee then bet 8,000 on the 2 river and Seidel quickly called, only to muck as Lee turned over aces with AA.

England In Her Element

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Kyna England
Kyna England

Kyna England had just finished showing off her custom-modified wine cupholder to PokerNews before she played a big pot. Richard Green opened to 1,600 in early position and Matthew Salsberg called in the hijack and England three-bet in the big blind. Both opponents called.

England bet 5,500 on the flop of JA3 and only Green called. England bet 19,000 on the Q turn and Green again called.

England slowed down with a check on the 5 river and Green moved all in for 23,000. England gave it some thought and perhaps took a sip of Chardonnay before calling.

Green could only show KxJx without a heart as England tabled a heartless AxQx to win the pot with a pair of aces as Green was sent to the rail.

No Bad Beat Jackpot? Ausmus Crushes Quad Aces With Royal Flush

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Royal Flush Versus Quad Aces
Royal Flush Versus Quad Aces

The mother of all coolers took place shortly after dinner break and PokerNews was quickly called over to the table to hear the action.

Harlan Karnofsky raised to 1,600 and Jeremy Ausmus called behind him. Karnofsky bet 1,600 on the flop of KQ8 and Ausmus called. Both players then checked on the A turn.

Karnofsky checked again on the A river and Ausmus bet 9,000. Karnofsky reportedly said "cooler city" before moving all in and being met with a snap-call from Ausmus.

Karnofsky showed an immensely strong holding with AA for quad aces, but Ausmus had the only hand that could beat him: a coveted Royal Flush with J10.

Karnofsky was sent to the rail in a fashion so horrific that Stephen King couldn't conceive it, while Ausmus now finds himself with a stack of over 100,000.

Thomas Pierce

Justin Young raised to 1,400 in early position and PokerNews Podcast Gold Pass winner Thomas Pierce three-bet to 4,000 on the button. Young made the call.

The flop of 4AA went check-check, bringing the 10 turn. Young checked and Pierce fired out a bet of 7,000.

Young thought for a moment before giving up his hand and the pot was pushed Pierce's way.

Palma Redistributes the Wealth

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Nicholas Palma
Nicholas Palma

Nick Palma and Martin Raus were debating how much taxes the wealthiest Americans should pay and the conversation was interrupted when Johan Schumacher raised to 1,000 from under the gun and Palma three-bet to 3,000 from the next seat. Raus then called in the big blind and Schumacher got out of the way.

Raus checked on the flop of 649 and Palma continued for 1,800. Raus called. Raus checked again on the Q turn and Palma sized up to 3,400. Raus again called.

Raus checked once more on the 9 river and Palma put him to the test by moving all in for 11,900. Raus gave it some thought and called. Palma could only show ace-high with AK as Raus rolled over 1010 to win the pot with a pair of tens.

"I found the bluff," Palma said with a shrug before turning to Patrick Leonard. "You didn't give him the memo! I've played no hands."

Gusmao Rivers Quads to Crush Schumacher's Flopped Boat

Level 3 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Johan Schumacher
Johan Schumacher

A painful cooler took place at Table 10 that was recounted back to PokerNews.

Action kicked off with a raise from Pedro Gusmao as Johan Schumacher and Trong Engedal both called from the blinds.

Schumacher and Engedal checked on the flop of A55 and Gusmao continued for 600. Only Schumacher called.

Schumacher checked again on the 4 turn and Gusmao sized up to 1,800. Schumacher check-raised to 6,500 and Gusmao called.

The 4 river completed the board and Schumacher moved all in for 19,500 as he was met with a snap call. Schumacher showed Ax5x for a flopped full house, but he was crushed by the rivered quads of Gusmao with 44 to be left with crumbs.

Engedal asked Schumacher whether it was painful to recount the action of such a cooler. "Not even a little bit," replied Schumacher.

"We're dead on the inside," added Chance Kornuth.

Lucy Lamperouge raised to 700 under the gun and the player in the hijack three-bet to 1,800. Lamperouge made the call and the flop came Q67.

Lamperouge check-raised to 1,000 over the hijack's bet of 400 and the hijack called, bringing the 3 turn.

Lamperouge bet enough to put the hijack all in who had about 4,500 behind and the hijack quickly called.

Hijack: AA All in
Lucy Lamperouge: 76

The river landed the J and Lamperouge's two pair held up to send the hijack packing.
