Liebert Gets Some Company

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Daniel Negreanu's table recently broke and he was reseated over at Kathy Liebert's table. The two have been chatting all day and now they're just seats apart. In a recent hand, Negreanu raised to 675 from middle position and received calls from both the blinds. Action checked to Negreanu on the {8-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop and he continuation bet 1,200. The small blind responded with a check-raise to 2,800, the big blind folded, and Negreanu reraised to 6,800. The small blind gave it a moment's thought before folding. Negreanu is up to around 53,000.

Negreanu Falls from Top Spot

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

It's not that often that one player can overcome another in such a big way while playing different events on the same day in two completely separate places, but it has happened today. Thanks to his win earlier in the year at the 2011 PCA Super High Roller, Daniel Negreanu claimed the top spot on the all-time money list for live tournament cashes. Erik Seidel has had himself one heck of a year so far, earning $3,592,283 in 2011 already. That's good enough to have put him in second place behind Negreanu on the all-time money list. How far behind? Just $168,895.

If you've been following our coverage of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, you know that Seidel has made it to the finals and will face Chris Moneymaker for the $750,000 first-place prize. Making it to the finals alone has earned Seidel $300,000 in prize money, meaning he has now officially passed Negreanu on the all-time money list. With his guaranteed cash of $300,000, Seidel now has $14,247,297 in live tournament earnings. Negreanu has $14,116,192 to his name and as of right now, that's only good enough for second place. Still, Negreanu will have all week in this event to try and retake the lead, but for now it's all Seidel at the top of the mountain.

Rule #1: Protect Your Hand

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

There is one very grumpy European in the room now.

We picked up the action as a player in middle position opened to 750 and another player flatted right next door. The table folded around to the big blind (Seat 1) where our European friend peeked at his cards, then dropped them down in front of his stack. The dealer pulled them into the muck, just a couple inches away, but the big blind hadn't intended to muck. He pulled his two cards back off the top of the deck, then stuck in a reraise to 2,300.

Floor!

The ensuing shenanigans involved the whole table in a fit of laughter and head shaking for five solid minutes. The first floorman came over and asked the dealer what happened. She used two of the mucked cards to reenact what she saw, unintentionally flashing the {7-Hearts} in the process. The floor asked her to explain again, and she did so with the second mucked card, eventually flashing that {3-Hearts} as well. "This whole table is falling apart," Jason Young said as he and half the table laughed in amusement. "It's unbelievable."

The floorman motioned for backup, and the second floorman walked up to the table, shook his head, and started to walk away. "Look, he doesn't want any piece of this," Young said, and the table all laughed again. "He's like, 'Forget this!'"

Finally, the decision was made that Seat 1's hand was dead, and he angrily flipped over his {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} saying, "How would I fold this hand?" It was to no avail, though. The responsibility to protect one's hand falls solely on the player, and that's really all there is to it.

"How many red queens are going to come on this flop now?" Young concluded the stand-up routine.

The other two players took a {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {J-Clubs} flop, and a single continuation bet from the raiser took it down as our European friend stormed off to tell his troubles to a friend a few tables over.

Four-Way Pot Between dpeters17, jcamby33, KidPoker and amak316

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Amit "amak316" Makhija raised to 800 from under the gun and James "jcamby33" Campbell called from the next seat. David "dpeters17" Peters called from the cutoff and Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu called from the big blind. All four players saw the flop come down {Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} and action checked around to see the {4-Diamonds} pair the board on the turn.

Negreanu fired the turn for 2,600. Makhija folded and Campbell made the call. Peters also made the call. With only one player lost on the turn, the river brought the {8-Hearts}. Negreanu checked, Campbell checked and Peters bet 6,150. Negreanu folded, but after some time in the tank, Campbell made the call. Peters showed the {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for trip fours and Campbell couldn't beat it.

Campbell dropped the pot and slipped to 19,000 while Peters moved up to 43,000.

Negreanu Takes One from Sabat

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Daniel Negreanu

From under the gun, Daniel Negreanu raised to 675. The small blind called and Eddy Sabat called in the big blind. The three players took the flop of {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and action checked to Negreanu. His continuation bet was worth 1,500 and only Sabat came along down the road.

Fourth street brought the {6-Hearts} and Sabat checked. Negreanu bet 3,500 and Sabat called. The river completed the board with the {5-Hearts}. Sabat checked and Negreanu checked behind.

Negreanu tabled the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} to beat Sabat's {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and increase to 52,000 in chips. Sabat slipped back to 20,000.

Fare Thee Well, Evdakov!

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We walked up to the table just in time to catch Nikolay Evdakov bust. In the hand, three players had seen a flop of {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades} and the player in the small blind bet. A middle position player either called or raised, Evdakov moved all in from the cutoff for around 20,000, and the small blind, who had the big stack, moved all in over the top. The middle position player folded and the cards were turned up:

Evdakov: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Small Blind: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The small blind had flopped top set and left Evdakov looking for a club to stay alive. The {2-Diamonds} was no help and neither was the {K-Hearts} river. Just like that, Evdakov was eliminated from the Big Event.

Hennigan Grants a Double

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

John Hennigan, with {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}, just got a short-stacked opponent all in for his last 6,725 with {K-Spades} {J-Spades}.

Naturally, the board ran {5-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {10-Spades}, and Hennigan is forced to grant a double up to kick his stack down just under 50,000.

Sabat Freerolls

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

On a {K-Clubs} {8-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop, Eddy Sabat checked to his opponent to allow him to bet 2,300 before check-raising to 6,425 total. After a minute or two, his opponent moved all in with his big stack, and Sabat took his pause. He counted out his ~22,500 remaining chips, then announced the call to put himself at risk.

Sabat turned up {K-Spades} {Q-Spades}, freerolling for the pot when his opponent tabled {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. "Come on," Sabat pleaded. "Ten of spades!"

Turn: {2-Spades}

Sabat and Daniel Negreanu shot each other a glance and Sabat leaned forward to see if he could spike that fifth diamond. "Let's see that ten of spades now!"

River: {2-Hearts}

That's a miss, and Sabat is still around 30,000 after taking his chips back from that pot. "I guarantee the dealer burned a spade," he lamented as he stared at the board.

Judah Update

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We decided to give all you Mel Judah fans an update on your boy. Action folded to Judah on the button and he applied some pressure to the blinds in the form of a raise to 800. The big blind made the call and both players checked each street as the board ran out {6-Spades}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Hearts}{A-Hearts}. The big blind showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Judah mucked. He is sitting with 24,000.
