A couple of the bigger names who played today and amassed some hefty stacks were Ali Eslami (135,200) and Daniel Negreanu (111,500). Both finished in the top 10 for Day 1b. Other names such as Joe Cada, Daniel Alaei, Jennifer Tilly, Matt Affleck and John Hennigan also played in the second starting flight, but they all fell by the end of the day.

Some of the other notables moving on to Day 2 are Dwyte Pilgrim, Eddy Sabat, Kathy Liebert, Ray Henson and Arnaud Mattern. They'll join the remaining players from Day 1a when the fields combine tomorrow at 12:00 PM local time to continue the quest. What's at the end of the road? Just a major title and $500,000 in prize money, that's all. We'll see you right back here on PokerNews for all the live coverage!

Peng Takes a Big Hit

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

With about 15,000 in the pot and a board reading {6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts}, Vanessa Peng bet 15,000 only to be raised to 35,000 by her opponent in middle position. Peng thought about it for awhile before making the call. Unfortunately for her, she ran into her opponent's {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} but straight. Peng lost more than half her chips and was left with just 19,500.

Negreanu Still Climbing

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From middle position, Daniel Negreanu raised to 1,800. The small blind three-bet to 4,900 and Negreanu made the call. The flop came down {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Spades} and both players checked. They also checked the turn ({7-Diamonds}) and river ({2-Diamonds}). The small blind then tabled the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Negreanu mucked.

On the next hand, Negreanu opened from middle position again with a raise to 1,800. Joseph El Khoury called from the big blind and the flop came down {Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. El Khoury checked and Negreanu bet 2,100. El Khoury folded and Negreanu won the pot.

Negreanu is up to 115,000 now.

Not Mastering Much

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Men "The Master" Nguyen was doing well early but not so much here in the latter stages of the day. Recently he was in the big blind and called an opponent's raise to 1,800 as the flop came down {J-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}. Nguyen checked, his opponent bet, and he insta-mucked. Nguyen is down to just 10,000 with less than a half hour left in Day 1b.

Negreanu Crushing

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From under the gun, Daniel Negreanu raised to 1,800. Play folded all the way around to the small blind and he three-bet to 4,500. John Hennigan folded in the big blind and then Negreanu moved all in after giving his opponent a speech. The player made the call for his last 21,000.

Negreanu: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Small blind: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} to give Negreanu the pot and send the player to the rail. Negreanu is now in six figures with about 105,000 in chips.

World Champion Down

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Joe Cada was looking for a decent spot to commit his last 7,000 chips or so and decided it was time after looking down at {J-Spades}{K-Diamonds} in middle position. The player in the cutoff woke up with {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and made the call.

Cada was dominated and looking for some help. The {8-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop gave both players a pair of jacks, but the cutoff's ace-kicker was in play. The {6-Spades} turn changed nothing and neither did the {A-Diamonds} river. Cada, the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, made his exit from the Big Event just shy of Day 2.
