Baker Stuck in Reverse

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante

David "ODB" Baker raised on the button only to have the small blind reraise to 6,500. Baker refused to back down and put in a four-bet to 14,300. The small blind thought about it for a bit before moving all in for 19,900 more. Baker was not happy and obviously did not have a big hand.

"You didn't call yet," the small blind said. "That's a good sign." Baker went back and forth for two minutes before making the call and discovering the bad news:

Baker: {Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Small Blind: {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out an uneventful {5-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Baker dropped to 45,000 on the hand.

"You Want Me to Call?"

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante

Action folded around to Tom Lee in the small blind and he put in a standard raise. He seemed surprised when the big blind moved all in for 37,400 more. "You want me to call?" Lee asked as he stacked up chips. His opponent didn't say a word, which might have influence Lee to fold. He is sitting with an above-average stack of 140,000.

Jacks for Clements

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante
Scott Clements
Scott Clements

From under the gun, Scott Clements raised to 3,600. He was called by one player in the hijack seat and the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}. Clements bet 4,500 and his opponent raised to 10,000. Clements called.

The turn brought the {5-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {8-Spades} hit the board on the river. Both checked again.

Clements tabled {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} to beat his opponent's {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and win the pot. The two-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner is up to 45,000 in chips.

The Pace of Play

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante

With 136 players left, more than two-thirds of the starting field has already been shown the exit door. The money is scheduled to arrive with 56 players remaining, and we're still a half level away from the midpoint of this Day 2.

We'll play six full levels today, and there's an outside chance we might burst the bubble before sending the survivors home for the night.

Kagawa Gets a KO

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante

A player in late position opened to 4,000 with 22,000 behind, and Masa Kagawa reraised to 12,000. The remainder of the short stack's chips went in, and he was racing his {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} against Kagawa's {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}.

"Come on, low cards," he pleaded, and the dealer obliged him with a clean {4-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} flop.

"Low cards," he begged again, but this time the {A-Hearts} peeled off the deck to pull Kagawa into a big lead with one to come. The river {6-Clubs} was not the two-out salvation the shorty was looking for, and Kagawa has eliminated him to move to about 112,000.

Henson Hanging On

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante
Ray Henson
Ray Henson

With about 13,500 in the pot and a board reading {2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, Ray Henson moved all in from the big blind position for 11,100. His sole opponent in early position seemed twisted on the decision. He counted out the chips, put them back, counted again, and so on and so forth. Eventually he settled on a fold as Henson took down the pot. He is still in trouble with a stack hovering around 25,000.

Mattern Drops

Level 11 : 200/800, 1,600 ante

While the break clock was ticking down, Arnaud Mattern was involved in a big pot. He had been tangling with the player two seats to his left off and on, and we picked them up as Mattern opened from the button and the big blind three-bet. Mattern called, and it was heads up to the flop.

It came {8-Clubs} {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}, and the big blind check-called a bet of 8,200. He checked again following the {8-Spades} turn, and Mattern wasn't slowing down now. He bet 16,200, and his opponent craned his neck to eye up Mattern's remaining stack. He snuck in a big check-raise, and Mattern instantly folded to save his ~40,000 remaining chips for a better spot.

Liebert Leaves

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Kathy Liebert - out
Kathy Liebert - out

Just before the break, the table folded around to Kathy Liebert who has been working the short stack for the last few orbits. She grabbed her last ~15,000 chips and slid them forward, and Yevginiy Timoshenko splashed in a reraise from the small blind, isolating himself against the at-risk shorty.

Liebert: {A-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}
Timoshenko: {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}

"Okay, we're rooting for an ace," she said. "Tom (McEvoy), can you root for an ace for me?"

McEvoy asked the dealer for an ace too, but she wasn't listening. The board ran out {8-Clubs} {3-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {5-Hearts}, and Liebert has been eliminated.
