Day 4 Completed

Day 4 is a Wrap

Overnight chip leader Robert Mizrachi
Overnight chip leader Robert Mizrachi
With that last elimination of Ryan Schimidt in 8th place, the players have opted to end play for the night and come back tomorrow to play seven handed for the rest of the event. There was going to be a redraw to one seven-handed table anyway before we reached the official final table of six, so all of the players and staff figured it'd be in their benefit to just return tomorrow.

Thirty-six players walked into the tournament room today including the champions of the past two years, Travis "TravestyFund" Rice and Matt Brady. Both players were eliminated, solidifying the fact that a brand new champion will be crowned at the 2009 Aruba Poker Classic. Matt Vengrin, Howard "Tahoe" Andrew and Zachary "CrazyZachary" Clark were also eliminated today.

Robert Mizrachi came into the day as the chip leader and ended the day the same way. In fact, Mizrachi never slipped out of the top three spots all day long. He finished the day with 1.977 million. Here are the rest of the chips counts for tomrorow in seat order:

Seat 1: Chase Steely - 1,293,000
Seat 2: Jose Roberto Santos - 211,000
Seat 3: Brandon Hall - 442,000
Seat 4: Brock Parker - 1,241,000
Seat 5: Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin - 1,573,000
Seat 6: Robert Mizrachi - 1,977,000
Seat 7: Matt Ross - 301,000

The final table tomorrow will be held outside on a stage that has been set up over the pool. Play will commence at 12:00pm local time so make sure to be back here at PokerNews.com then to follow the coverage as the next Aruba Poker Classic champion is crowned!

Ryan Schmidt Eliminated in 8th Place ($41,470)

Ryan Schmidt - 8th Place
Ryan Schmidt - 8th Place
After Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin opened with a raise, Ryan Schmidt moved all in behind him. When action got back to Baldwin, he made the call.

Schmidt's tournament life was on the line with {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} in a race against Baldwin's {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts}.

The flop came down {10-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {7-Hearts}, adding a straight draw to Baldwin's hand. The turn brought the {4-Clubs} and eliminated a bunch of outs for Schmidt. The river was the {5-Diamonds} and, although he didn't need it, Baldwin made a straight to eliminate Schmidt.

Schmidt will take home over $41,000 for his efforts. Baldwin moved up to about 1.575 million.

John Clancy Eliminated in 9th Place ($29,950)

John Clancy - 9th Place
John Clancy - 9th Place
John Clancy has just been eliminated from the tournament in a hand that seemed to play as fast, if not faster, than a sit'n'go turbo hand online!

Clancy opened with a raise to 30,000 from under-the-gun and action folded around the table to Robert Mizrachi in the big blind who took a handful of creamsicle colored chips (T10,000) and tossed them into the middle, raising to 90,000. Clancy then immediately moved all in and Mizrachi called, tabling {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}; he'd soon be racing against Clancy's {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

The {3-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop gave Mizrachi a gutshot straight draw, though another one of his outs -- the {A-Clubs} -- would hit on the turn, giving him top pair.

"Nice hand," said Clancy as he stood up from the table, conceding defeat before the dealer even revealed the river card... the {J-Diamonds}.

After the hand, Mizrachi stacked up 1.93 million in chips, further extending his chip lead.

Ross Gets Crushed By Steely

Chase Steely
Chase Steely
Three players saw a flop of {K-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}; Chase Steely, Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin and Matt Ross. Action was checked to Ross by Steely and Baldwin before Ross fired 107,000. Steely thought for a little while before saying, "Make it 260 total." he then slid the chips out for the raise to 260,000. Baldwin folded and then Ross announced all in. "I call." said Steely.

Steely turned up {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} for the broadway straight and Ross held bottom set with the {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}.

"Hold up!" yelled Steely.

"Pair the board!" pleaded Ross.

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} and the river the {6-Spades}. Both cards weren't what Ross was looking for and Steely was awarded the massive pot. He now has 1.26 million. Ross dropped to 260,000.

Mizrachi v. Santos II

Big stack Robert Mizrachi opened with a raise to 31,000 from the cutoff and Jose Robert Santos made the call from the small blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and both players checked, opting for a free turn card: {6-Clubs}.

Santos checked once more, but there’d be no more free cards, as Mizrachi fired a 35,000 bet. Santos made the call and the hand played on to the river: {10-Diamonds}.

Two checks later the cards were on their backs and Mizrachi’s {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} bested Santos’ {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to take down the pot.

After the hand, Santos dropped to right around 210,000 while Mizrachi improved to a whopping 1.41 million in chips.

Mizrachi Takes a Big Pot from Santos

Robert Mizrachi
Robert Mizrachi
Robert Mizrachi raised from under the gun to 31,000. John Clancy was next in line and he made the call. Jose Roberto Santos was on the button and reraised to 125,000. Mizrachi made the call, but Clancy ducked out of the way.

The flop came down {3-Spades} {3-Hearts} {2-Clubs} and Mizrachi checked to his opponent. Santos fired 200,000 with two stacks of chips, one in each hand. Mizrachi waited only a moment before announcing all in. He moved in for around 850,000 and had Santos well covered. Santos had approximately 250,000 chips behind after he made his bet.

Santos stood from his chair and looked pained with the decision. Eventually though, he picked his cards up and spun them into the muck. Mizrachi just shrugged and raked in the pot. He is now up to 1.34 million chips and back at the top of the pack.

Parker Narrows the Gap

Brock Parker
Brock Parker
We picked up a pot in progress on a board reading {6-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {10-Hearts}. On the turn, Brock Parker had led out with a bet of 48,000, and Robert Mizrachi had made the call.

On the river, Parker fired out another 85,000 chips, drawing a raise to 235,000 from Mizrachi. Parker thought it over for a minute or two before making the call for a significant portion of his stack.

It was the right move. Parker showed up {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, and Mizrachi flung his cards into the muck. That pot brings the two players much closer together with about 950,000 chips each.

Baldwin Having None of Ross' Three-Bet

At his four-handed table, Eric Baldwin opened the pot with a raise to 28,000. In the small blind, Matt Ross three-bet it up to 74,000, and Baldwin time banked for about two minutes. Finally, he slid out another raise to a total of 198,000.

"Really? Wow..." said Ross. He kicked his hand in, sending a nice chunk of free chips over to basebaldy.
