High Roller Freeze-Out

Day 1 Completed

Day 1 Concludes

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

The first day of action in the $25,000 High Roller Freeze-Out has come to an end here at the 2010 Full Tilt Poker Merit Cyprus Classic. Plenty of big names packed the small 36-player field and provided some great action for all of us. When the clock was officially ended for the night, 24 players remained.

Although the event started an hour late, it was well worth the wait. Phil Ivey graced us with his presence. He showed up late to the event and left early, but nothing can top having Ivey in the tournament. Along with him, top pros David Benyamine, Jon Turner, Sorel Mizzi, Carter Phillips, Andrew Feldman and Sam Trickett also took to the felt. All of them made it through to Day 2, but Chino Rheem and Erik Cajelais were amongst the few casualties that hit the rail.

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi was also on hand, fresh off his amazing summer at the WSOP. His WSOP has yet to come to a conclusion as he awaits the Main Event final table in November and he was joined here in this event by two fellow November Niners. Both John Dolan and Filippo Candio were on hand, with Dolan showing up towards the very end of the night. Both are still alive in the event, keeping all three of the WSOP Main Event final table players in contention.

Play will resume tomorrow at 5:00 pm, an hour late than originally scheduled. We'll see you then for all the live coverage right here on PokerNews.

Six-Bet Preflop Works For Chouity

After an initial raise from a player in early position, Martin Kabrhel three-bet from the hijack. Nicolas Chouity put in a fourth bet from the cutoff and action folded back around to Kabrhel. He five-bet to 16,600 and not to be outdone, Chouity six-bet to 41,500. Kabrhel called and the flop came down {6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

Both checked, landing the {Q-Spades} on the turn. Kabrhel bet 26,600 and Chouity called after a few moments, leading to the {9-Diamonds} river card. Kabrhel moved all in and was immediately called by Chouity, showing {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. Kabrhel shook his head, turning over {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}, seeing the huge pot head Chouity's way.

Chouity: Up to about 265,000
Kabrhel: Down to about 68,000

Four More

The tournament staff paused the clock and drew for how many hands the players would play before ending the night. The magic number is four and then we're out of here.

Peltekci's Shove Fails

Michael Peltekci raised to 2,000 before John Dolan reraised to 4,500. Peltecki then made it 12,400 and Dolan called, bringing the two to a flop of {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

Peltekci checked and Dolan fired out 14,000. Peltekci made the call. The turn card brought the {7-Diamonds} and Peltekci checked. Dolan bet out 24,000 and Peltecki went into the tank for quite some time. He claimed that he didn't know what to do and then shoved all of his chips in. Dolan made the call for 85,800 total holding the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Peltekci held the {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

The river card completed the board with the {K-Spades} and Peltekci sent over the chips. He was knocked all the way down to 2,200, busting a few hands later, while Dolan boomed his way up to about 230,000 in chips.

November Niners Out in Full Effect

Anther November Niner has joined the $25,000 High Roller Freeze-Out. John Dolan is now in the field and looking to pad his bankroll a bit more before he takes to the WSOP felt in November to go for the gold. He joins fellow November Niners Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Filippo Candio.

Benyamine Bests Candio

Filippo Candio checked the flop of {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} to David Benyamine. Benyamine bet out an unknown amount and Candio called. The turn went check, check after the {8-Spades} fell to see the {3-Hearts} fall on the river. Candio bet 4,000, Benyamine raised to 12,000, Candio reraised to 34,000 and Benyamine called.

Benyamine held the {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Candio mucked his hand. He's down to 34,000 while Benyamind increased to 280,000.

Peltekci's Aces

Michael Peltekci raised to 2,000 from the hijack seat before Sorel Mizzi three-bet to 5,200 from the cutoff. The player on the button tossed in 2,000, intending to call the original raise. He didn't see that Mizzi had reraised to a greater amount. The player could now call or fold, but the 2,000 he put in the pot had to stay there. He made the call of the 5,200 before action fell on Michel Habib in the small blind. He reraised to 25,400. Action moved back over to Peltekci and he fired all in for 69,400. Mizzi and the button folded, but Habib called all in for less.

Habib held the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} and was crushed by Peltekci's {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}. The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Peltekci moved up to about 150,000 in chips while sending Habib to the rail.

Mizzi Shoving the River

On the flop of {4-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Nicolas Chouity called a 6,900-chip bet from Sorel Mizzi. The turn then brought the {Q-Diamonds} and Mizzi fired 11,200. Chouity called to see the {9-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Mizzi moved all in for 30,100 and Chouity tank-folded.

Mizzi showed only the {6-Clubs} and moved up to 70,000. Chouity dropped to 118,000.
