A Supreme Double For Hakim

Jeff Hakim
Jeff Hakim

Jeff "YoungSupremacy" Hakim is up to about 120,000 after he recently doubled up. We arrived at the table and found a healthy pot of roughly 60,000.

Hakim was all in for 29,400 on the {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} board and after a few minutes in the tank, his opponent called. Hakim quickly tabled {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and his opponent shook his head in disgust, tabling {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The {A-Clubs} turn and {3-Hearts} river were safe for Hakim who now with a very healthy stack.

Dropping Like Flies

The field today began with 141 players. The players just got back from the dinner break and we're about 3/4 of the way through the fourth level of the day and the field has just about been cut in half with 78 remaining. The plan was to play eight levels today, but that may change if too many are lost too quickly. What usually happens though is the field starts to tighten up and play slower once things get deeper, so things may be altered at some point today.

Peltecki Wants Action

Rob Peltekci was all in for 16,300 with {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, needing to improve against his opponent's {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The board ran out {K-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Spades} and Peltecki paired up to double to about 39,000.

A few hands later Peltecki was involved again. Mustafa Meryumoglu opened to 2,600 under the gun and Dominik Nitsche called from early position. Rob Peltecki shoved from middle position for 38,800 and action folded back to Meryumoglu. He went into the tank, eventually getting the clock called on him.

Peltecki practically begged for a call, but Meryumoglu gave it up. Nitsche folded as well and Peltecki showed {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. Meryumoglu seemed relieved, retrieving his cards and showing {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

"I'm going to take all these guys out," Peltecki said.

In the next few hands Peltecki took down another pot and is up to about 60,000.

More Confusion At Marcus' Table

Van Marcus still leading the way
Van Marcus still leading the way

There was some more confusion and wouldn't you know, it came from Van Marcus' table.

From the cutoff seat, Marcus raised to 3,000. The button flatted and they were off to a flop of {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Marcus fired a continuation bet for 5,000 and his opponent called.

The turn brought the {8-Clubs} and Marcus fired 14,000. His opponent called again.

The river completed the board with the {6-Hearts} and this is where things got a little iffy. Marcus bet 25,000 and his opponent announced what couldn't be understood as either "call" or "fold" because of his accent, tabling the {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. The tournament director was right there at the table waiting to break it after this hand was over so he heard and saw all of this. Marcus opened his {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and was a little confused. He thought that the player might have called his 25,000-chip bet with just queen high, but the player said, "No, I said fold. Fold." Marcus nodded his head and scooped the pot.

Upon leaving the table, Marcus said he didn't know what to think. He said if the player had done the same thing with a hand like {Q-}{10-}, he'd have made him put the 25,000 in.

At any rate, he's back to 220,000 now.

Khalil Makes a Flush

Antoine Abou Khalil just won a big pot to move his stack to about 120,000 chips. He held the {Q-Spades}{10-Spades} and made a flush on the board of {A-Spades}{10-}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{J-Clubs}. After Khalil bet the river, an opponent shoved all in over the top with just a pair of aces holding the {A-}{2-}. Khalil made the call, won the pot and sent the player to the rail.

Rob Peltekci moved all in from under the gun and stood from his chair, saying, "If you bust me I'll give you $1,000," and flicked a $1,000 chip.

"Really?" said Dominik Nitsche.

"NOT!" responded Peltekci. After everyone then folded, Peltekci showed {3-}{2-}.

Controversial Hand Ends Chouity's Tournament

Nicolas Chouity
Nicolas Chouity

We told you before that we would pay close to attention to the table with Van Marcus, Roy Yaacoub, and Nicolas Chouity. Well, right before the dinner break a controversial hand has resulted in the elimination of Chouity, our Day 1 chip leader.

The board read {Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Chouity had bet about 30,000 into a healthy pot. His opponent in the hand, Hakan Kuscu, announced all in, but did not move his chips forward. Chouity, with his headphones on, did not realize the action was back on him as he did not hear Kuscu say anything. Without any motions from Kuscu, Chouity thought he was still tanking.

Meanwhile, a player at the table called the clock. The floorman came over and counted down to zero, resulting in the dealer pushing the pot toward Kuscu and declaring Chouity's hand dead. Chouity jumped out of his chair, clearly having thought the floor was counting down the clock on Kuscu.

The tournament director was called over and after being explained the situation by the floorman and the dealer, it was ruled that the hand was still live and action was on Chouity. Players at the table, mainly Karina Jett and also Van Marcus, vehemently disagreed with the ruling, citing that it's a player's responsibility to know when it's their turn. If having headphones on results with the missing of action, it's the player's own fault.

Regardless, the ruling withheld and Chouity's hand was live. Action was back on him and he decided to call all in for about 35,000 total. Kuscu tabled {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for quads and Chouity's tournament was over. Had his hand not be ruled live after once being ruled dead, Chouity would still be alive in the tournament.
