Klodnicki Smiles, Collects

Theo Tran and Chris Klodnicki
Theo Tran and Chris Klodnicki

Soon after play resumed, Kenneth Longacre was eliminated for the second time today, leaving 48 players to play on into the night. Meanwhile, an interesting hand just arose involving Edward Harris, Theo Tran, and Chris Klodnicki that saw the latter putting all of his chips at risk on the river.

The hand began with Klodnicki min-raising to 1,000 from under the gun and getting two callers in Harris (button) and Tran (big blind). The flop came {J-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and Tran checked. Klodnicki bet 2,000, and both Harris and Tran called.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds}. Tran checked again, and this time Klodnicki checked, too. Harris then put in a bet of 6,500 which Tran called quickly, and after taking a sip of his tea Klodnicki called as well.

The river was the {7-Diamonds}. Once more it checked to Harris who bet 12,500 this time, and again Tran was very quick with the call. Klodnicki deliberated once more, rechecking his cards and taking over a minute to act. Finally he declared he was all in, and after a count it was determined the all-in raise was for 13,600 more.

"There's action left, right?" asked Harris of the dealer, and Tran intervened with a response. "Yes, you can raise if you want." Harris didn't, though, and let his hand go.

Then Tran went deep into the tank, alternately taking to himself and to Klodnicki. It sounded as though Tran was indicating he had two pair (queens up), including the {Q-Diamonds}, and was wondering what Klodnicki could have. All the while, Klodnicki kept quiet, although was not entirely successful when trying to suppress smiling as he did.

Tran asked Klodnicki if he'd show if Tran folded, and Klodnicki again grinned without responding. Finally Tran called, and when Klodnicki quickly showed {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the flush, Tran mucked.

"All 10 books I read last night, none of them had that in them," said Jason Roth from across the table. Klodnicki stacked his chips quietly, that Cheshire cat grin still spread across his face.

Tran Can Do

Brian Meek had been one of the early leaders during the first couple of levels today, but has slipped back a bit of late. Just now he was raising to 1,000 in an effort to turn things around, then Theo Tran reraised to 3,400 from the small blind. Chris Klodnicki called the reraise from a seat over, and Meek called as well.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and all three players checked. The turn then brought the {2-Diamonds}. Tran saw that card as an invitation to bet 4,000 in an effort to claim the pot, and it worked as both Klodnicki and Meek let their hands go

Buzgon Set Up

Picking up the action on a {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} board with about 8,500 in the pot, Dan Buzgon checked to Robert Wood who bet 5,400. Buzgon gave it a bit of thought and dropped in calling chips, but mucked when Wood tabled {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for a rivered set.

Chips for Chettipally

Naveen Chettipally shakes hands with David Dawson

After ascending to more than 100,000 earlier in the afternoon, David Dawson has slid back to short-stacked status as we approach the dinner break, having lost some more of his chips just now to Naveen Chettipally.

Following a {J-Spades}{9-Spades}{K-Spades} flop, Dawson checked, Chettipally bet 3,000, and Dawson called. The turn was the {Q-Clubs}, and Dawson checked once more. This time Chettipally announced he was all in, and after just a few seconds Dawson called.

Dawson: {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Chettipally: {8-Spades}{5-Spades}

Chettipally had flopped a flush, while Dawson had turned a straight. But Chettipally was still at risk should another spade fall. The river then brought the {6-Clubs}, and Chettipally exhaled loudly as he took the pot.

Cherish Can't Call

Cherish Andrews was on the button and with three calls before her, opted to raise to 1,500. Each limper called and the flop came down {A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

It was checked around to Andrews who bet 3,500, forcing folds from the first two opponents. The third, though, re-raised all in with the bigger stack. Andrews had about 17,300 behind and after about 25 seconds sent her hand to the muck.
