Shimelfarb Takes More from Wazwaz; Wazwaz Recuperates Some

Hand #1: Rob Wazwaz opened to 60,000 from under the gun as the clock expired on Level 24 and action folded around to Gennady Shimelfarb, who defended his big blind.

The flop came and Shimelfarb checked to Wazwaz, who made a continuation-bet of 75,000. Shimelfarb thought for a bit and then check-raised to 300,000. Wazwaz quickly sent his cards to the muck.

Hand #2: On the following hand, Wazwaz defended his big blind to an open from Bob Van Syckle and the two checked a flop of . The turn came and Wazwaz went all in for 325,000.

Van Syckle confirmed that Wazwaz's stacks were 100,000 each and then sent his cards to the mcuk.

Shimelfarb Continues To Climb

There was around 225,000 in the middle on a board reading with action heads up between Rob Wazwaz in the small blind and Gennady Shimelfarb, who was on the button.

Wazwaz threw out a bet of 100,000 and Shimelfarb thought for a bit. He then slid in a raise, which the dealer cut out and announced to be 350,000. Wazwaz took about 10 seconds and then sent his cards to the muck.

Shimelfarb has been responsible for five of the last eight eliminations, vaulting him up the counts to make him the clear chip leader. With his most recent pot, he has eclipsed 2.5 million and now holds roughly one-third of the chips in play.

Action folded around to James Lawrence in the small blind and he picked up a pile of chips to go all in.

"Whoa, whoa whoa!" said Gennady Shimelfarb, who was in the big blind. Lawrence looked up to him.

"Oh, go ahead," implored Shimelfarb. Lawrence complied and went all in, prompting Shimelfarb to look down at his hand.

"Oh Jimmy, bad news. Good card," said Shimelfarb. He looked at the other one afterward.

"How much is that exactly?" Shimelfarb asked the dealer. The number was totaled to be 275,000 and Shimelfarb made the call.

"What are you doing?! Can I take that one back?" joked Shimelfarb. He changed his viewpoint: "okay, chop. Let's go."

The flop and turn rolled off , negating any possibility of a chop. However, the river fell to give Shimelfarb a pair of fives, topping Lawrence's unpaired hand to send him home in eighth place.
