Shimelfarb Rips the River

Level 23 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Action folded around to James Lawrence in the small blind and he opened to 65,000. Gennady Shimelfarb was in the big blind and defended, taking the two heads up to the flop {3-Spades}{a-Clubs}{7-Spades}. Lawrence fired a continuation-bet of 100,000 and Shimelfarb called.

The turn came {a-Hearts} and Lawrence continued with another bet of 150,000. Shimelfarb stuck around, bringing the river {6-Diamonds}. Lawrence emptied the clip, firing a third barrel for 200,000. Shimelfarb went into the tank for about 20 seconds.

"All in," said Shimelfarb. Lawrence folded not long after and Shimelfarb took down the pot.

Lawrence Wins with River Bet

Level 23 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

James Lawrence defended his big blind to an open from Rob Wazwaz, who was in early position. The two went heads up to a flop of {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Lawrence checked. Wazwaz made a continuation-bet of 80,000 and Lawrence thought for about a half-minute before putting out chips to call.

Action went check-check on the turn {4-Diamonds} to bring the river {9-Clubs} onto the felt. Lawrence fired out 155,000 and Wazwaz sent his cards to the muck.

Nghia "3 Putts" Le Eliminated in 9th Place ($6,930)

Level 23 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Nghia "3 Putts" Le
Nghia "3 Putts" Le

Bob Van Syckle opened to 65,000 from early position and Nghia Le went all in for 120,000. Action made its way back to Van Syckle and he quickly confirmed the amount, telling Le he hoped that he had two overs while he got the number. A call was then made and hands were tabled.

Nghia "3 Putts" Le: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Bob Van Syckle: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Syckle was happy to see he was, in fact, up against two overcards. Le and Syckle talked about how patient Le had been, with Syckle telling him that he was sure to hit the board as the flop fell {5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Syckle was correct, as the turn {q-Diamonds} rolled off next.

"Eight," predicted Van Syckle, hoping for the re-suckout. He was one pip off but got the desired result as the river {7-Spades} gave him a set of sevens, leaving Le out of chips as the ninth-place finisher.

"Oh, man!" said the defending champion, hitting the table with a smile. "It was fun!" he added, still smiling as he walked over to the payout table to receive the $6,930 due to him.

John Sorenson

Action folded around to Rob Wazwaz in the small blind, who went all in to put John Sorenson to a decision for the rest of his chips. Sorenson called.

John Sorenson: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Rob Wazwaz: {q-Spades}{2-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{8-Spades} to give Wazwaz a better two pair than that of Sorenson's to result in him taking 10th place in the tournament.

Play will be underway shortly for the final table. Stay tuned for redraw information.

"It's Hard To Knock Out '3 Putts!'"

Level 23 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Nghia Le saw action folded to him on the button and shoved his last 90,000 into the middle. Justin Thurlow called from the small blind to give him action.

Nghia Le: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Justin Thurlow: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Spades} to see the two players trade outs due to Broadway draws. It would end up not mattering as the turn {6-Diamonds} and river {5-Clubs} left Le out in front to score the double.

He gave himself a small round of applause, leading to a little laughter in response.

"It's hard to knock out '3 Putts'!" he said as the pot was sent his way.

Vic Peppe Eliminated in 11th Place ($5,836)

Vic Peppe
Vic Peppe

Vic Peppe limped in from the cutoff and was raised to 85,000 by Gennady Shimelfarb out of the small blind. Peppe called and the two went heads up to the flop {q-}{6-}{4-}. Shimelfarb put out a continuation-bet of 85,000 and Peppe shoved all in. Shimelfarb called.

Vic Peppe: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Gennady Shimelfarb: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The turn {a-} and river {9-} were unable to improve Peppe beyond his pair of queens, leaving his hand second-best to Shimelfarb's kings to result in his elimination from the tournament.

Webb Wins a Big Flip To Double

Level 23 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Stephen Webb shoved all in from the hijack and was called by James Lawrence out of the small blind.

Stephen Webb: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
James Lawrence: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

An ace came in the window and it was all Webb would need to score the double on a runout of {10-Spades}{j-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Webb gave his friend on the rail a fist bump and the dealer motioned to him to pull stacks forward for counting.

"Three (hundred and) ninety-five," said Webb, complying nonetheless.

"I think you've got more than that," the dealer said. He cut down the stacks to show Webb had his chips more than 20-tall, bringing his total to 435,000, which Lawrence paid off before getting ready for the next hand.

Thurlow Takes Big Pot Into Break; Chip Counts from Dinner

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Three minutes into the break, Justin Thurlow and Eric Torgerson were still involved in a large pot.

Thurlow was on the opened to 50,000 and Torgerson called from the small blind. They saw a flop of {2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Torgerson check-called a continuation-bet of 60,000 from Thurlow.

The turn fell {2-Clubs} and Torgerson check-called a second barrel of 120,000. The river came {3-Hearts} and Torgerson checked once more. Thurlow fired out 225,000, sending Torgerson deep into the tank. Eventually, he folded.

"Here, I'll show one," said Thurlow showing {a-Hearts} to show that he had the nut flush as the pot was sent his way.
