Petronack Nears Half Million; Three Eliminations on Table 1 Brings Hand-for-Hand Play

Nick Marsh opened to 15,000 from under the gun and received a call from Jess Petronack, who was on the cutoff. Andrew Johnson was on the button and next to act, and shoved all in for his last 49,000. Marsh folded and Petronack put out chips to call.

The board ran out to give Petronack trips and send Johnson to the rail. The table remarked about him having kings and losing with them twice in a row.

The hand they were referencing right before it saw Blake Bohn's departure when there was a three-way all in between Bohn, Johnson, and Sam Hanson.

Hanson hit a seven on the runout to score the triple as Bohn was sent home and Johnson was left short before being eliminated from the tournament.

"Now's the time to get lucky," added Hanson as Petronack finished the recap of the hand.

Moments afterward, Yao Yin was also eliminated from Table 1 to bring the total number of players from 49 down to 46, meaning the tournament is officially on the bubble and in hand-for-hand play.

Alsup Eliminates Sell Before Break; Short Stacks and Eliminations Nearing Bubble

Players are on their first 10-minute break of the day to color up the T500 chips.

Just before break, Rich Alsup was on the button and raised to 10,500 after action was folded to him. Jason Sell three-bet all in from the big blind for 54,000. Alsup thought for a while and then called.

Alsup was all over the flop , but the turn put Sell back in front and in position to double. The river turned the tides once more, however, and Sell found himself with the second-best hand and no more chips, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.

Brad Berman was also eliminated right before break, ending his campaign at a third Main Event title and missing an opportunity at eclipsing $1,000,000 in lifetime earnings.

Aside from that, play has been trending towards a slower pace as the tournament is just four eliminations away from the money. Here are a few short stacks with the bubble approaching.

Shimelfarb Gets Aces at the Right Time

Gennady Shimelfarb saw action folded to him on the button and opened to 12,500. Stuart Luhm, who appeared to have chipped up to around 400,000 prior to the hand, announced he was all in. Shimelfarb quickly called when action got back to him.

"Two aces!" said Rob Wazwaz, correctly predicting Shimelfarb's hand much to Luhm's dissatisfaction.

"Oh s**t! Gimme that f*****g five!" said Luhm, standing up with his phone out to record the runout. The dealer did not comply, bringing a runout of to leave Shimelfarb's hand best. His stack was counted to be 170,000 and he was paid off, bringing him over 350,000 as Luhm finds himself back at 223,000.

Torgerson Doubles Through Two-Time Champ

Fresh to the table after Table 7 broke, Eric Torgerson was on the button and three-bet all in for 46,500 over a cutoff open to 10,000 from 2006 and 2009 Main Event Champion Brad Berman. Berman thought for about 30 seconds and then put in chips to call.

Torgerson's tens were out in front and pulled even further ahead as the flop came to give him a set of tens. The turn left Berman drawing dead before the river finished the runout, resulting in the pot being sent to Torgerson.

"Nice table change," another player across the table chided. Torgerson smiled as he raked in the pot.

Peppe Stands Up, Sits Back Down
