Laak's Play Fails

Phil Laak raised to 12,000 with the {10-Spades}{5-Clubs} from the cutoff seat and David Benyamine called from the small blind with the {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Phil Hellmuth called in the big blind with the {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

The flop was huge for Hellmuth when it came down {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and he picked up trip sevens. Action checked around.

The turn card as the {2-Spades} and Benyamine checked. Hellmuth led out with a bet of 30,000. Laak got frisky and raised to 85,000. Benyamine folded and then Hellmuth min-reraised back to 140,000. Laak folded and his play failed to work.

Laak has been playing somewhat loose and wild, but it hasn't worked out for him yet in this match.

Aces vs. Kings

Darth Vader is playing today
Darth Vader is playing today
Roland De Wolfe limped under the gun in his Darth Vader costume holding {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Phil Laak limped with the {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and then Phil hellmuth completed from the small blind with the {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Tony G woke up with the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} from the big blind and things looked like they might get huge. He raised to 13,000, but De Wolfe just flat-called, not wanting to play a big pot and risk elimination. Laak called and then Hellmuth folded.

The flop came down {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Tony G fired 25,000. De Wolfe made the call. Laak folded.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Tony G fired 40,000. De Wolfe made the call again.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and Tony G fired 70,000. De Wolfe called again, but saw that he was beat by Tony G's aces. He could have easily gone broke here if it wasn't for his cautious play.

The Mask

Yes, this is what he's wearing
Yes, this is what he's wearing
Roland De Wolfe has just busted out the Darth Vader mask and is now in full costume sitting at the table. Darth Vader, a lightsaber, bikes and a stuffed monkey -- just your typical $100,000 buy-in event.
