Hilton Playing Five-Star Poker

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Dusk Till Dawn regular Adam Hilton has been absolutely bossing his table. We are four away from the money, but he is not here to min-cash and has remained as fearless as ever.

Gareth Cresswell was Hilton's first victim: Hilton opened to 40k under the gun and called Cresswell's 114,000 three-bet, before leading on an {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop for 85,000 and following that up with a 135,000 turn bet when the {Q-Clubs} landed. Cresswell reluctantly folded what he claimed was two kings, while Hilton showed {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} before offering the classic backhanded compliment, "I know you're good enough to fold there."

The very next hand, Hilton and Cresswell get involved again, both calling Richard Wright's massive 65k pre-flop open from UTG+1. Hilton check-called Wright's 85,000 c-bet on {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{Q-Spades} before the two of them checked down a {Q-Clubs} turn {4-Hearts} river runout. Hilton held on with {A-Spades}{10-Spades}, and has built back up to around 800,000.

Frujina Thriving, Bone Busted

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Andrei Frujina is our current clear chip leader on Day 2d, with Adam Bone the latest player to bust while Friujina has been making profit.

In the latest victorious hand for the runaway leader, he made it 20,000 at blinds of 4,000/8,000/1,000 and was called by Adam Bone and Rachel Heneghan, who came into play today with 830,000.

The flop of {Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} saw Frujina c-bet 56,000 and get two calls. The turn of {K-Spades} saw both Frujina and Bone check, so Heneghan bet 105,000 but she was called twice and all three players checked the {9-Diamonds} river as a result. Frujina held {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and cleaned up to add to his pile. Heneghan took a hit but Bone's stack was sufficiently weakened to see him bust just a few hands later.

Rodriguez Cleans Out Hilton

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

After an under the gun open of 26,000 from Scott Rodriguez was met by a three bet of 76,000 by next to speak Adam Hilton, the two saw a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

A small continuation bet of 53,000 from Hilton once again saw a call from Rodriguez, bringing the {9-Hearts} on the turn.

This time, Rodriguez check-shoved over Hilton’s 125,000 bet for 171,000 with Hilton clearly in pain from the decision it had given him.

Hilton eventually made the call, showing his {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}, which was no good against the flopped full house of Scott's {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

The river was the {9-Spades}, sealing the pot for Rodriguez.

Duta Calls But Law Answers

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Stephen Law made quad tens to survive on Day 2 of the partypokerLIVE Grand Prix UK
Stephen Law made quad tens to survive on Day 2 of the partypokerLIVE Grand Prix UK

Florian Duta three-bet with pocket queens and when Stephen Law piled all chips into the middle, Duta made a quick and correct call. He was right to do so, as Law only held {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, but across the board, Duta was outdrawn as it came {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Spades} to give Law quad tens and send Duta's stack spiralling.

Duta doubled back up a few hands later, but had he held on, he'd now have a million chips. As it stands, he is shorter than his conqueror in the hand, Law.

McTaggart Plays the Margins

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

On table 22, one of six tables remaining in the Day 2 field, Paul McTaggart opened the cutoff to 25,000 with Peter Craw folding the button. Adam Maxwell counted and re-counted his stack before shoving all-in from the small blind for 320,000. McTaggart called somewhat hesitantly and rolled over his {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

Maxwell's {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} was in bad shape, and the {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop did nothing to improve his situation. The {A-Clubs} turn meant McTaggart only needed to dodge two outs going to the river. He didn't just dodge, though, he improved when the {10-Spades} landed.

The Poker Masochist

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Former Genting Poker Series champion Ali Ayub has always shown up for the big tournaments at Dusk Till Dawn and the Grand Prix UK this weekend is no exception. He was one of our chipleaders going into this hand, opening under the gun to 21,000. Piotr Szymczak called next to act and, with the action folded all the way round, James Gardner called off the extra from the big blind.

Action checked round on the {6-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop, and again on the {4-Spades} turn. With Gardner and Ayub both having checked the {6-Spades} river as well, Szymczak took a 50k stab. Gardner folded without too much hesitation, however Ayub was not so easily convinced.

He turned to his opponent. "It's either a backdoor flush or ace high, right? Do you have a flush, sir? You're allowed to have a flush."

"I have to do it; it's the masochist within," sigh Ayub as he called. Szymczak revealed the {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for the ace high blocker, but not much else. Ayub whipped over his {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, clearly gleeful after having made the correct read. He is now level for the chip lead along with Luke Fields and Ian Morris.

Koper Cant Cope with Summers

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Former Dusk Till Dawn200 champion Alan Summers returned from his trip to Asia to play Day 2 of the partypokerLIVE Grand Prix and he sat down just in time to open under the gun on table 41 to 18k. Szymon Koper saw this as a great spot to shove his last 20 bigs from the small blind. Florian Duta instantly folded the big blind but Summers flicked in the call.

Koper couldn't wait to table his {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}. Summers was in rough shape with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, but only until he flopped the nut flush on a {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop. Groans of sympathy resonated around the table, while Koper remained surprisingly calm. The turn paired the {5-Clubs}, giving Koper three outs going to the river, but the {4-Diamonds} didn't help and the pot was shipped in Summers' direction.

Gardner Doubles Through Walsh

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
James Gardner - straight into the action
James Gardner - straight into the action

Kieran Walsh raised from early position pre-flop to 25,000 and got two callers in James Gardner and Tom Wallsgrove. The flop of {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{J-Spades} saw both men check, but on the turn of {10-Spades}, Walsh bet out 50,000 and when Wallsgrove folded, Gardner moved all-in and got a call.

Kieran Walsh: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
James Gardner: {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The river card of {A-Hearts} made no difference whatsoever and Gardner got a vital early double with interest to fight his way back up to around 55 big blinds from less than half that.
