Goodbye, Godoy

Nicolas Godoy
Nicolas Godoy

It's been quite a ride for 19-year-old Nicolas Godoy of Argentina. The $10 PokerStars qualifier traveled to the Bahamas with his aunt and uncle to play the 2013 PCA, emerged as the Day 2 chip leader, and established himself as a force in the tournament. Unfortunately for Godoy, his inspiring run has just come to an end.

It happened on a {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop when Godoy checked and Michael Lipman bet 45,000. Godoy responded by check-raising to 115,000, and then called off for 250,000 or so when Lipman moved all in.

Lipman: {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Godoy: {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

Lipman didn't have much, but it was out in front of Godoy's open-ended straight draw. "High cards, high cards," Lipman pleaded. The dealer obliged with the {Q-Hearts} on the turn.

The {3-Clubs} river wasn't a high card, but it was still safe. "That's what I'm talking about," Lipman shouted as he did a victory lap around the area. On the other end of the table, a dejected Godoy gathered his things and made his way to the payout desk. Not a bad payday off a $10 investment.

Meanwhile, Mazin Khoury was eliminated at an outer table.

Panyak Doubles Through James

The board read {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} and Maxim Panyak fired out a bet of 25,000. Ronald James raised it up to 55,000 and Panyak called. The board completed with the {9-Clubs} and Panyak checked. James bet Panyak all in and Panyak called for his tournament life.

James shrugged and showed {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for air. Panyak tabled {A-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a pair of aces and was able to survive the all in. Panyak doubled to about 360,000 in chips.

It Isn't Fair: "The Lucky Hand Of The Tournament"

Ryan Fair has had a prosperous afternoon, which has included two doubles through Darren Elias. More recently, Fair added the chips of Fredrik Magnil to his stack.

It happened after Fair opened for 27,000 from the hijack and Magnil three-bet all in for 131,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Fair and he asked for a count. "My friend told me that this is the lucky hand of the tournament," Fair said of his holding before making the call.

"Eights?" inquired Magnil.

"No," Fair laughed. "If I had eights I'd have snap-called." Fair then tabled {10-Spades}{7-Spades} and was looking to improve against Magnil's {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}. The {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop allowed him to do just that by pairing the ten, but the {6-Hearts} turn provided Magnil with a flush draw. "Never not a sweat," Fair said. "This is good for TV."

Indeed, the TV cameras were swarming as the dealer burned and put out the {2-Spades}. It wasn't what Magnil was looking for and he made a quick exit from the tournament floor while Fair chipped up to 1.3 million.

Fair Doubles Big Through Elias

Not long ago, Ryan Fair doubled through Darren Elias, which he did for a second time a few minutes back.

We caught the action on a {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-} flop with about 70,000 in the pot. Elias had just bet 28,000 only to have Fair raise to 103,000. "All in," Elias said to put his opponent at risk.

"Call," Fair snapped to commit his stack of 499,000. Elias then flipped {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, but it was no good as Fair held {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. The {3-Clubs} turn left Elias drawing dead, and after the {J-Clubs} was put out on the river for good measure, Fair was pushed the massive pot.

Shatilov Doubles Through Busquet

In a battle of the blinds, Andrey Shatilov was all in and at risk for 304,000 holding {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Olivier Busquet had him covered, but trailed with {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

The flop, turn, and river were {6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Shatilov doubled to 687,000 chips. Busquet is still very healthy with 705,000.

James Eliminates Colman

Action folded around to Australian Julius Colman on the button and he moved all in for approximately 210,000. Ronald James, who was next to act in the small blind, wasted little time in calling, and the big blind got out of their way.

Colman tabled {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, but it was way behind the {A-Clubs}{J-Spades} of James. The former player was up out of his seat after the flop came down {3-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and then watched the dealer burn and turn the {2-Clubs}.

"Three outs," Colman said.

"Two," James politely corrected him by pointing out the {8-Clubs} was no longer good. The dealer then burned one last time and put out the {2-Hearts}, the last card Colman would see in the 2013 PCA Main Event.

Not Good For Godoy

On a flop of {6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, George Clyde-Smith fired 50,000 into the middle. Nicolas Godoy called and the two saw the {3-Clubs} turn. Clyde-Smith kept up with the aggression by pushing forward 115,000 in chips. Godoy still decided to stick around.

The {10-Clubs} fell on fifth street and Clyde-Smith moved an astounding 250,000 into the middle. Godoy counted out enough chips to call and pushed them forward. Clyde-Smith showed {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} and Godoy shook his head and mucked his cards. With that hit, Godoy is down to only 340,000 while Clyde-Smith is sitting on about 1.53 million.
