Cheong Finds a Double Through Benitez

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Joseph Cheong
Joseph Cheong

Joseph Cheong raised to 14,000 from under the gun, and action folded over to Paul Newey in the hijack seat. Newey called, then Francisco Benitez called from the cutoff seat. Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst called from the small blind, and the four players saw the flop come down {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

On the flop, Selbst, Cheong, and Newey all checked. Benitez was last to act and opted to fire a bet of 27,500. After Selbst got out of the way, Cheong check-raised all in for 104,000. Newey gave it a little bit of thought, then folded, and Benitez quickly called.

Benitez showed the {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for a double gutshot straight draw. Cheong had the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for an overpaid and a gutshot of his own.

The turn was the {3-Spades}, and the river was the {6-Diamonds}. That gave Cheong the win and moved him to 275,000 in chips. Benitez slipped back to 128,000.
