Chen Wins Three-way

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We caught a huge three-way all in play out with Xiaojie Chen and two other opponent’s getting all the chips in pre-flop. Following a mid-position raise and a call from the small blind, Chen moved all-in from the big blind and was called in both spots.

Chen had {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}, the original raiser held {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and the small blind had {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{a-Hearts} flop saw Chen seize the lead in the hand, and the Chinese player stayed in front when the {3-Clubs} turn and {8-Clubs} river completed the hand. Chen had both unfortunate opponent’s covered and stacked up to 43,000.

Li Spikes Turn to Bust Chan

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Justin Chan
Justin Chan

For a while there it looked as though today was the day Justin Chan would win his Day 2 seat and the Hong Kong player had run his stack up to around 37,000. However, Chan suffered a few set back to drop down the chip counts before the following hand came up against Will Li.

Chan opened the action on the button and Li chose to defend his big blind and it was heads-up to a {10-}{9-}{5-} flop. Li led out on the flop, Chan shoved and Li made the call.

While Li, holding ace-ten, was behind to Chan’s pocket kings the arrival of an ace on the turn gave Li two pairs and the river was not a king, meaning Chan is now out while Li stacked up to 50,000.

Pang Busto

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Steven Pang’s Day 1F is over unless of course, he wants to fire a second bullet. Sitting with a stack of a little over 20,000 (roughly 26 big blinds) Pang moved all-in over the top of a player’s early position 1,600 open with ace-king and his opponent made the call with pocket tens.

While Pang caught a king on the turn to take the lead in the hand his opponent rivered a ten to make a set and send Pang to the rail.

Leow Cripples Lin, Then Helps Him Survive

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

We arrived at Ivan Leow’s table in time to see the Malaysian play a big pot against Andy Lin. All the chips had gone in pre-flop and the hands were face up on the table in front of the respective players.

With the community cards spread {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} Lin had {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} which was behind to Leow’s {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and stacks were being counted down. The only silver lining for Lin was that he had Leow covered – by all of 200 chips.

With 50 percent of his remaining stack committed to the next ante Lin was all-in the next hand and action folded around to Leow in the small blind. The Malaysian raised to 1,700 into Xiaosheng Zheng’s big blind and the Chinese player responded with a re-raise to 4,700 in total.

Leow thought it over for a few seconds before choosing to make the call and it was three-way to a flop of {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} with Leow and Zheng the only two live stacks in the hand.

After Leow checked the action over to Zheng the Chinese player fired out a 5,500 continuation bet, leaving himself 20,500 behind and after a little deliberation Leow made the call and the dealer peeled off the {7-Spades} turn.

This brought checks from both players and the [{j-Hearts} river completed the hand. Now Leow led, betting out 10,500 and Zheng quickly folded, leaving Leow free to rake in the side pot and climb to 38,000.

Leow turned over {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Zheng looked distinctly unimpressed so it is a distinct possibility that he folded the best hand. Lin was pretty happy though as he had {j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and just got there on the river to climb back up to 1,000. A few more like that and he’ll be back to starting stack.

Bart Luyckx, Card Whisperer

We caught the short-stacked Bart Luyckx involved in a hand, and it turned out to be a real gem. Down to his last 4,000 or so Luyckx limped from under-the-gun and the action folded around to big blind Li Hong Jin, who eyed up Luyckx tiny stack and then juiced it up to 2,200 to go.

The Belgium obviously had plans for the hand and got the rest of his chips in and Jin made a quick call.

Bart Luyckx: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Li Hong Jin: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Things were looking a little sketchy for Luyckx, who had the dominated hand but he seemed upbeat and showcased his card whispering skills.

“I’m going to hit a ten,” stated Luyckx confidently.

The dealer spread the flop and wouldn’t you know it, the window card was the {10-Diamonds} followed by {5-Spades}{j-Spades}. Luyckx’s joy turned to ashes in his mouth with the arrival of the {k-Spades} turn, and with Jin holding the {a-Spades} things were not looking good.

“I feel as though a queen is coming,” said Luyckx with an air of premonition as he showcased his card whispering skills once again, as spookily, the {q-Hearts} peeled off on the river to give the Belgium a much needed double up. We are not sure what this weekend’s lottery numbers are but recommend Mr. Luyckx buy a ticket as soon as he is able.

Notable Stacks

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

The field is now up to 218 entrants, 161 of whom are still in the running and while there are far to many players to keep track of everyone and it’s far too early to really matter who the chip leader is we got a few of the notables and how they are stacking up.
