Alex Rettenbacher and Richard Schaaser Among Biggest Stacks

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Alex Rettenbacher
Alex Rettenbacher

Richard Schaaser limped from early position, as did Alex Rettenbacher from the cutoff. The player in the small blind three-bet to 4,100 and EDDY in the big blind then reraised all in for around 75,000. Schaaser folded while Rettenbacher called all in for 50,000. The small blind called off his last 20,000 also.

Small blind: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Rettenbacher: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
EDDY: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}

The flop came {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} and Schaaser mentioned that he had folded {K-Spades}{3-Spades}, which would have made a flush. The {3-Diamonds} turn and {2-Clubs} river completed the board and Rettenbacher doubled through EDDY with a full house, busting the small blind also.

EDDY had around 25,000 left after that and those chips soon went to Schaaser.

Thomas Zurek Eliminated by Martynas Valentiejus

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

On the three-way flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, the action checked to Thomas Zurek in the hijack and he bet 1,700. On the button, Martynas Valentiejus raised to 5,100 and the third player in late position folded. Zurek pushed all in and Valentiejus asked for a count, the shove was for 18,925. Valentiejus then called and they turned them over.

Zurek: {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Valentiejus: {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Neither the {A-Diamonds} turn nor the {4-Diamonds} river improved Zurek and he has been eliminated, but may soon be back on the second bullet.

Second Bullet for Langrock

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

After falling back to just over 10,000 chips for the second time, Sebastian Langrock this time had been unable to run up his stack and was sent to the rail from table 10. It didn't take long for him to reappear though, thanks to the reentry option, and he purchased a second bullet to get a fresh full stack.

The field of Day 1a is now up to 144 entries, almost 50 more than the previous first flight of the PokerNews Cup here in Rozvadov.

Trojnara Doubles Again

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

On the brink of elimination with a short stack not long ago, Jakub Trojnara has since been able to increase his stack after the double against Serok Kilic. And he proceeded to double up again, this time against table neighbor Slobodan Mihaljovič.

The action started with a raise to 1,500 by a player in late position and Lukasz Kubicki called in the cutoff. Mihaljovič three-bet to 4,300 in the small blind and Trojnara four-bet to just over 9,000 in the big blind. The initial raiser and Kubicki quickly folded, while Mihaljovič moved all in and Trojnara snap-called.

Mihaljovič: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Trojnara: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} and the aces held up to see Trojnara double once again.

After the {A-Diamonds} river, Terlaan took the lead again with a bet worth 12,000 and Chun eventually called after some consideration. Terlaan rolled over {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for trips aces and that won the pot.

Trojnara: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Hanna Busts Lipauka

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Scott Hanna raised to 1,200 and Adašiünas Laimutis called before Vadzim Lipauka three-bet to 5,800. Hanna then shoved all in and Laimutis folded, while Lipauka called all in with the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Hanna was trailing with the {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} but the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} was bad news for Lipauka already.

Sure enough, the {K-Diamonds} turn and {10-Diamonds} river completed the board and gave Hanna a flush to scoop the pot and bust an opponent.

Zarathustra Doubles with the "Nuts"

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

A player in under the gun opened to 1,100 and Zarathustra three-bet small. Clyde Terlaan called in the big blind and the under-the-gun player then reraised to 5,600. Zarathustra moved all in and Terlaan moved out of the way. The initial raiser quickly called and showed {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.

"No, I have the nuts!" Zarathustra grinned and flipped over the {9-Spades}{8-Spades}. Sure enough the flop fell {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} to give him a straight and he held up on {K-Spades} turn and {5-Clubs} river.
