The first of four starting days of the €225+€25 PokerNews Cup Main Event at the King's Casino is completed. In the last edition of this very event at Europe's card room in the center of Europe, Day 1a drew 98 entries and that number has been eclipsed to put the tournament well on it's way to meet the guaranteed prize pool of €200,000.

After 14 levels of 30 minutes each, the field of 156 entries has been whittled down all the way to 27 survivors and Germany's Ronny Voth leads with a massive stack of 391,000. Voth was a big stack after the elimination of Quincy Chun and also knocked out Karl-Heinz Oppermann at the end to jump into the top spot. Alexander Rettenbacher registered late and scooped a big pot with a set of queens in a three-way all in, another set of tens in the last level of the night saw the Austrian bag up 365,500. Lithuania's Ričardas Vymeris completes the overnight podium with 301,500 followed by Israel's Constantine Gorinson (289,500).

Three players bagged up 279,500: Benas Kuzmickas and Matas Čikinas from Lithuania as well as Richard Schaaser. Other big stacks and notables include Daniel Turrisi (190,500), Lukáš Svoboda (157,500), King's regular Zarathustra (128,000) and Marek Blasko (90,000). Among those to join the rail were Aleksei Ivanov, Hüseyin Arkun, Thomas Zurek, Scott Hanna, Sebastian Langrock and Serok Kilic. They can all reenter the competition again in any of the three remaining starting days.

Day 1b kicks off tomorrow at 5 p.m. local time and there is also a €35+€5 Turbo Satellite two hours prior with at least 10 seats up for grabs. Two other Side Events are scheduled on Friday also: The €100+€10 Pot-Limit Omaha with single rebuy or add on gets underway as of 7 p.m. local time. Furthermore, the €90+€10 Ticket & Cash Event starts at 8 p.m. local time and offers a prize pool of €10,000 in cash as well as 15 Main Event tickets, every player in the money will receive an entry into the Main Event.

The festival at the King's Casino continues until next Monday, August 15th, and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to cover all the action until a Main Event champion is crowned.
