Deborah Worley-Roberts Leads After PokerStars Festival Dublin Main Event Day 1B

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Deborah Worley-Roberts

Day 1B attracted a total of 259 entrants creating a combined field of 496 players from both Day 1A and 1B of the PokerStars Festival Dublin Main Event. With one flight still to come, all remaining players will be looking forward to hopefully securing a slice of the €700,000 guarantee when Day 2 gets underway tomorrow.

Someone who will be casting their eye ever upwards is Day 1B chip leader Deborah Worley-Roberts who absolutely dominated to not just eclipse 200,000 (no-one achieved that feat yesterday) but 300,000, eventually finishing with 317,600.

Worley-Roberts took a huge step towards securing the overnight chip lead when she called with a set of sixes on a Broadway-card heavy flop after her opponent over-bet river.

Worley-Roberts had a bit of a late night last night and admits she loves the social side of poker and has a wide circle of friends in the game but had to struggle all day with a hangover.

“I wouldn’t advise it, I am a bit the worse for wear.”

Worley-Roberts made several impressive river calls on the way to the chip lead and she explained that she uses “live tells and betting patterns. When you play for a long time you have a lot of swings in your style.”

At the WSOP in Las Vegas this year, Worley-Roberts finished second in the Ladies Championship for $83,459 but it was the worst day of her poker career.

“I’ve never cried so much. I knew I was going to win it, but the cards beat me. I’ve never been so gutted.”

It did boost her confidence in her ability at the poker tables though, and she is looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow.

Asked if she would be getting an early night now to rest up for tomorrow Worley-Roberts shook her head.

“I don’t know about that. Let’s not get carried away. But I’m not going to drink anything that has the word 'bomb' in it.”

Other big stacks advancing are Emmett Mullin (311,700), Daniel Jones (203,700), Andrew Grimason (263,000) and Sean Prendiville (260,000).

Today saw a bigger field than yesterday, attracting some top names. Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody entered but busted early on, as did Will Kassouf. Joining the pair in failing to make it through to Day 2 were Wayne Bridge and Michael Duberry who both said they enjoyed their time in the Main Event, only to fall some way short. Bridge himself said that some of the players he had battled with were on a completely different level than his.

However, former world champion snooker player Stephen Hendry, sporting the PokerStars patch, had a see-saw day before bagging up 75,200.

"It's been a long day," said Hendry at the end of the day's play. "I lost half my stack queens against sevens, but then I got moved and doubled up with aces. The last two levels were stressful!

"I'm pleased to be the last one standing. My stack isn't great but alright."

Others joining Hendry in Day 2 are Jason Wheeler (83,900), Niall Farrell (93,000), Dermot Blain (96,000), Andrew Christoforou (97,100), Tomas Soderstrom (107,100), and Tom Hall (87,300).

There is a special turbo Day 1C with 20-minute levels kicking off shortly, available only to players who played and busted in one of the first two flights. Those advancing from that particular flight will join the remaining players from Days 1A and 1B in Day 2 which gets underway at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow.

Stay tuned to PokerNews who will bring you all the live updates from the Regency Hotel as we get closer to crowning a winner here in Dublin.

On a {6-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and with 25,000 chips in the pot already, Deborah Worley-Roberts watched as Samlane Phomveha bet 38,000.

Worley-Roberts swore as she fondled some chips.

"If you have jack-ten then well done, I call," she flipped over {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for a set of sixes, but Phomveha had already mucked his hand.

She moves up over 300,000 and is now in the driver's seat for the Day 1B chip lead.

Geilich Bluffs Farrell, Or Did He?

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Ludovic Geilich - Bluffer?
Ludovic Geilich - Bluffer?

“I just got a bluff through Firaldo,” a thrilled Ludovic Geilich was keen to retell his derring-do in a recent hand.

“No you never,” was Niall Farrell’s opinion on the subject. “If you did it would be the first time.”

According to Geilich he was dealt a {5-Clubs} which was exposed and replaced by the {q-Hearts}{10-Spades} and he opened to 3,000.

Farrell called on the button and the big blind came along.

Three players to a flop of {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-} and a bet of 3,500 from Geilich saw Farrell call and the big blind fold.

The turn was another {3-} and a 6,000 bet from Geilich saw Farrell call again.

The river was the {j-Diamonds} and Geilich bet 18,500 which got Farrell to lay down {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

This led to quite a dispute as Geilich didn’t show but claimed to have bluffed his mate with {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

“How can I make you believe me?” Geilich pleaded

“Don’t make up bluffs where I have the card you said you had,” came the laconic reply.

Deborah Worley-Roberts Makes "Titty Rubber" Call

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Deborah Worley-Roberts
Deborah Worley-Roberts

Deborah Worley-Roberts was tangling over a pot with Kevin Fitpatrick who had position on her.

The flop was {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Worley-Roberts check-called a bet of 4,000 from Fitzpatrick.

The turn was the {k-Clubs} and Worley-Roberts check-called a 6,600 bet.

On the river {2-Spades} a final check from Worley-Roberts saw Fitzpatrick move all in for around 20,000.

Worley-Roberts pondered for a while before telling him, “I really do think you’re bluffing me,”

She toyed with the calling chips and then put them in.

“A pair,” Fitzpatrick said and turned over {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

Worley-Roberts showed the winning {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} to bust Fitzpatrick and stay as one of the big stacks in the room.

“That’s a titty rubber,” she said gleefully, and it was, so she did.

Wayne's World Set for More Poker After PokerStars Festival Dublin Main Event

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Wayne Bridge
Wayne Bridge

After running into the nuts of Dermot Blain, Wayne Bridge got pocket sevens in against the pocket queens of Sean Prendiville to bust. We caught up with him after his elimination to ask him how his tournament went.

"I've loved it to be honest," said Bridge, "But I definitely need some lessons.

"I've just been playing with my mates; entered a few tournaments. But the players I was playing with today I thought were brilliant."

Bridge was up against the likes of Irish regular Dermot Blain, PokerStars Team Online's Fintan Hand and WSOP Ladies Event runner-up Deborah Worley-Roberts, with whom Bridge had running battles.

"The table was good fun; Deborah [Worley-Roberts] really tore me a new one! She was coming up with all these nicknames for me - 'Doggy Style' and 'River Rat'.

"I hit two pair on the river, so I was 'River Rat' from then on!"

After his experience here in Dublin, Bridge vowed to put some time in off the felt to get better.

"I think I just need to play more; I wanna take out more time to play than what I have been doing. Just for practice.

"I can see that the standard of players I was coming up against today was really good. When the flop comes down, just after that I felt like I was getting bullied.

"I think I'll get some lessons!"

Wayne Bridge Scores Own Goal; Runs into the Nuts of Dermot Blain

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Wayne Bridge
Wayne Bridge

A player in early position raised to 1,500 out of turn before Wayne Bridge himself raised to 1,500 from under the gun. His opponent's out-of-turn raise counted as a call and Dermot Blain smooth-called in the big blind.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}. Blain checked and Bridge bet 6,000. The third player in the hand folded and Blain check-raised to 15,000. Bridge moved all in, covering Blain and Blain snap-called.

Dermot Blain: {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Wayne Bridge: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The turn was the {2-Spades} giving Bridge a flush draw, but the river was the {7-Hearts} and Blain's straight wa sbest.

Michael Duberry Eliminated

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Michael Duberry
Michael Duberry

Michael Duberry was wandering away from the tables looking a little disconsolate having busted and was kind enough to give us his exit hand and his thoughts on the day.

Duberry was short stacked when he three-bet an opener holding {k-}{k-}. He got two callers though and they went to a flop of {3-}{j-}{3-}.

There was enough action before it got to Duberry to put him all in and he duly committed the remainder of his stack.

One of his opponents held {j-}{j-} for a flopped full house and that was it.

“Gutted,” was Duberry’s initial reaction, “I really wanted to make day two and I was playing nice and solid. I couldn’t make the most of the good hands I had and I got unlucky a few times. I was happy with how I played but some of these fellas are at a different level. Bridgey is still in so I’ll get some ribbing.”

Duberry also said it was mentally draining to concentrate for so long and he was off to get some food, re-fuel and make a decision later on whether to play the Day 1c Turbo tonight.

Stephen Hendry Chips Up Through Gaetano Brignone

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Stephen Hendry

Gaetano Brignone raised to 750 from the hijack and Stephen Hendry called in the next position. The pair went heads-up to a flop of {4-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Spades} and Brignone check-called a bet of 900 from Hendry.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and both players checked. Brignone checked the {k-Clubs} river and Hendry bet a chunky 3,600 into a pot of only just over 3,000. Brignone threw in a single chip to call.

Seven-time World Snooker Champion Hendry tabled {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a full house, threes full of kings, and Brignone rechecked his hole cards before mucking.
