Early Pots for Duberry and Saxby

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Michael Duberry
Michael Duberry

A player raised to 300 from under the gun and got five callers including Michael Duberry. The flop came {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. It checked to Duberry who bet 700. The small blind was the only caller. The turn was the {9-Clubs}. The small blind checked and Duberry bet 1,400. The small blind folded and Duberry took down the pot.

Meanwhile at a neighbouring table Kelly Saxby raised from under the gun and got two callers. She bet 500 on the {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop and the big blind called. The turn was the {2-Hearts} and the big blind check-folded allowing Saxby to take down the pot. Her stack has taken an early knock, but there is still plenty of time left for her to run it up.

“I Bluffed the Bollix Off Him,” Paul Carr Like a Boss Vs Will Kassouf

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
William Kassouf
William Kassouf

There was an open and then a call from William Kassouf before Christian Caffrey on the button raised to 1,700. The original raiser folded but Kassouf called.

The flop was {2-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Kassouf check-called a bet of 2,500.

“I hope you’re not bluffing me,” said Kassouf, “I’ve got top pair. Ace jack no good.”

The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and Kassouf check-called a 4,000 bet from Caffrey while the chatter continued.

The river was the {k-Clubs}.

“There’s the money card, you let me get there. If I bet now you’ll fold,” Kassouf continued.

They both checked and when Caffrey showed his {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flopped set Kasouf had to admit defeat and folded.

Paul Carr is at the same table and recounted a recent hand where he, “Bluffed the bollix off him,” which creased up the table including the dealer. Carr told how he had check-called flop and river and then bombed the river with an over bet which saw Kasouff fold.

Carr insisted he was bluffing, Kassouf was adamant Carr had turned a flush.

To settle the matter Kassouf opened for 800 and Carr called on the button as the rest of ther players left them to it.

The flop was {q-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Kassouf continued for 800. Carr called to see the {3-Clubs} hit the turn.

Kassouf checked and when Carr asked how much he had left and bet 3,000 Kassouf folded.

“Never mind nine high like a boss,” Carr taunted, “Eight high like a boss,” and showed his {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

“You picked up a flush draw on the turn,” Kassouf protested as the pot was pushed to a jubilant Carr.

“I’ll warn you,” Carr told the rest of the table, “I’m only doing that to him. If I bet against any of the rest of you I’ll have it.”

Stephen Hendry Chips Up Through Gaetano Brignone

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Stephen Hendry
Stephen Hendry

Gaetano Brignone raised to 750 from the hijack and Stephen Hendry called in the next position. The pair went heads-up to a flop of {4-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Spades} and Brignone check-called a bet of 900 from Hendry.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and both players checked. Brignone checked the {k-Clubs} river and Hendry bet a chunky 3,600 into a pot of only just over 3,000. Brignone threw in a single chip to call.

Seven-time World Snooker Champion Hendry tabled {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a full house, threes full of kings, and Brignone rechecked his hole cards before mucking.

Michael Duberry Eliminated

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Michael Duberry
Michael Duberry

Michael Duberry was wandering away from the tables looking a little disconsolate having busted and was kind enough to give us his exit hand and his thoughts on the day.

Duberry was short stacked when he three-bet an opener holding {k-}{k-}. He got two callers though and they went to a flop of {3-}{j-}{3-}.

There was enough action before it got to Duberry to put him all in and he duly committed the remainder of his stack.

One of his opponents held {j-}{j-} for a flopped full house and that was it.

“Gutted,” was Duberry’s initial reaction, “I really wanted to make day two and I was playing nice and solid. I couldn’t make the most of the good hands I had and I got unlucky a few times. I was happy with how I played but some of these fellas are at a different level. Bridgey is still in so I’ll get some ribbing.”

Duberry also said it was mentally draining to concentrate for so long and he was off to get some food, re-fuel and make a decision later on whether to play the Day 1c Turbo tonight.

Wayne's World Set for More Poker After PokerStars Festival Dublin Main Event

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Wayne Bridge
Wayne Bridge

After running into the nuts of Dermot Blain, Wayne Bridge got pocket sevens in against the pocket queens of Sean Prendiville to bust. We caught up with him after his elimination to ask him how his tournament went.

"I've loved it to be honest," said Bridge, "But I definitely need some lessons.

"I've just been playing with my mates; entered a few tournaments. But the players I was playing with today I thought were brilliant."

Bridge was up against the likes of Irish regular Dermot Blain, PokerStars Team Online's Fintan Hand and WSOP Ladies Event runner-up Deborah Worley-Roberts, with whom Bridge had running battles.

"The table was good fun; Deborah [Worley-Roberts] really tore me a new one! She was coming up with all these nicknames for me - 'Doggy Style' and 'River Rat'.

"I hit two pair on the river, so I was 'River Rat' from then on!"

After his experience here in Dublin, Bridge vowed to put some time in off the felt to get better.

"I think I just need to play more; I wanna take out more time to play than what I have been doing. Just for practice.

"I can see that the standard of players I was coming up against today was really good. When the flop comes down, just after that I felt like I was getting bullied.

"I think I'll get some lessons!"

Deborah Worley-Roberts Makes "Titty Rubber" Call

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Deborah Worley-Roberts
Deborah Worley-Roberts

Deborah Worley-Roberts was tangling over a pot with Kevin Fitpatrick who had position on her.

The flop was {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Worley-Roberts check-called a bet of 4,000 from Fitzpatrick.

The turn was the {k-Clubs} and Worley-Roberts check-called a 6,600 bet.

On the river {2-Spades} a final check from Worley-Roberts saw Fitzpatrick move all in for around 20,000.

Worley-Roberts pondered for a while before telling him, “I really do think you’re bluffing me,”

She toyed with the calling chips and then put them in.

“A pair,” Fitzpatrick said and turned over {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

Worley-Roberts showed the winning {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} to bust Fitzpatrick and stay as one of the big stacks in the room.

“That’s a titty rubber,” she said gleefully, and it was, so she did.

Geilich Bluffs Farrell, Or Did He?

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Ludovic Geilich - Bluffer?
Ludovic Geilich - Bluffer?

“I just got a bluff through Firaldo,” a thrilled Ludovic Geilich was keen to retell his derring-do in a recent hand.

“No you never,” was Niall Farrell’s opinion on the subject. “If you did it would be the first time.”

According to Geilich he was dealt a {5-Clubs} which was exposed and replaced by the {q-Hearts}{10-Spades} and he opened to 3,000.

Farrell called on the button and the big blind came along.

Three players to a flop of {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-} and a bet of 3,500 from Geilich saw Farrell call and the big blind fold.

The turn was another {3-} and a 6,000 bet from Geilich saw Farrell call again.

The river was the {j-Diamonds} and Geilich bet 18,500 which got Farrell to lay down {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

This led to quite a dispute as Geilich didn’t show but claimed to have bluffed his mate with {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

“How can I make you believe me?” Geilich pleaded

“Don’t make up bluffs where I have the card you said you had,” came the laconic reply.
