Chandrashekhar Busts Amid Multi-way Carnage

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Akash Chandrashekhar’s tournament has come to a close in one in a four-way pre-flop all-in.

It was Chandrashekhar who was the initial raiser, making it 3,600 to go with Korea’s Jaehyun Lim making the call before Jinyong Park moved-all in for 30,000 exactly.

The small blind folded and the big blind, who had been crippled in an earlier hand against Lim, was all in for his last 200 in chips.

After some confusion about side pots and a lengthy discussion about how much the big blind could and could not win the floor was called to make sure the pot was counted correctly.

Chandrashekhar then moved all-in for 34,600 in total, Lim made the call and the cards were turned over.

Big Blind: {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Akash Chandrashekhar: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Jaehyun Lim: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Jinyong Park: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}

The {8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop kept Lim’s pocket sevens in front and while the {10-Diamonds} turn gave Chandrashekhar additional gutshot outs to go with his two overcards the {5-Spades} river saw Park hit a set of fives.

Chandrashekhar and the big blind busted, Lim won the side pot and climbed to 115,000 and Park stacked up to 75,000 after that timely catch.

Gosavi Takes Another Nasty Beat

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Badri Kedar Gosavi busted in the last level of Day 1b when losing a flip with queens to ace-king, and had to re-enter before the end of level nine before running up a stack. Just now, seated under the gun, he called the shove of Anh Nguyen on a flop of {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} and tabled {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Nguyen only had {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts} on the button, but got there after the {6-Clubs} turn and {A-Clubs} river completed the board.

Nguyen jumped out of his seat, ecstatic, and yelled "ship it to papa." Gosavi paid off the 24,800 of Nguyen and both player's stacks were evened out after the hand.

Less fortunate were Kuniyoshi Imazu, Georges Georgiou and Luen Hei Kwok, who all busted.

Rivera Felts Lee; Lim Triples

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Euryd Rivera and Brandon Lee got into a raising war and the latter ended up as the player at risk and with the worse hand. Lee showed {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} and Rivera had that easily beat with {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The board of {K-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} brought no surprise and Lee was done for the day.

At the same time on a different table, Jaehyun was all in for the remainder of his short stack and got called two ways. Sam Nee bet the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop to force out the third player and table {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Lim was on the way out with {K-Spades}{4-Spades} but in front. A blank {Q-Spades} turn and {5-Spades} river secured a double up and Lim could all but laugh when sitting back down.

Yang Takes from Lim; Busts Li

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

"You got to report on this hand, it is so sick," Min Soon Lim said while the river lay {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Lim faced a near pot-sized bet of chip leader Woohyuk Yang for 18,000 and eventually called. As soon as he did so, Yang announced a flush and tabled {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Lim nodded and mucked his cards.

Only a few hands later, Yang raised to 3,200 and Segundo Barte called, as did Lim in the small blind. Shengyu Li moved all in from the big blind and Yang asked for a count. Li was all in for 41,300 and Yang called, while both Barte and Lim quickly folded.

Shengyu Li: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Woohyuk Yang: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The board came {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and Lim was not happy, saying he would have scored a double through Yang.

Or-Paz Rails Quan

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Singapore’s Sebastian Quan opened the action from early position with a raise to 3,500 and neighbor Tom Or-Paz made the call to take play heads-up to a flop of {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Quan continuation-bet 6,000, Or-Paz quickly shoved for over 65,000 and was beaten into the pot by Quan.

Sebastian Quan: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Tom Or-Paz: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Or-Paz looked distinctly unhappy about being called that fast and while the Israeli was behind he still had just over a 1-4 chance of making the best hand. Unfortunately for Quan that’s exactly what happened and while the {4-Spades} turn was a nice, safe card, the {a-Clubs} river gave Or-Paz the best hand and brought Quan’s tournament to a close.

Recent Casualties

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Kai Paulsen and John Beveridge were joined on the rail by Annie Bordallo, one of the few women that took the chance tonight. Furthermore, Luen Hei Kwowk ran out of chips as well and there are less than 125 players remaining, the Day 1c field has been cut down into more than half.

Lim Folds Out Beveridge, Yogo Rails One, Tate Doubles

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

John Beveridge limped from middle position and Singapore’s Min Soon Lim popped it up to 4,000 from the cutoff.

Both blinds bowed out and Beveridge made the call to take play heads-up to the {9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop. Beveridge checked the action over to Lim, who quickly bet 4,000 and the Canadian folded just as quickly.

We arrived at Iori Yogo’s table in time to see the Japanese player, sitting in the big blind holding {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, get all the chips in against a short-stacked player in middle position who had moved all-in for his least 21,000 with {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} to give the player with ace-queen the lead until Yogo spiked a nine on the river to send his adversary to the rail and stack up to 49,000.

Ronnie Tate is sitting one table over from Yogo and we passed by his table just in time to see the US player catch a timely double up. With a stack of just 20,500 Tate was looking dangerously short and raised to 5,500 from middle position.

The action folded around to the big blind who took one look at Tate’s stack and grinned, re-raising to 26,200 to put Tate to the test. However, it was one the US player would pass with flying colours and Tate made the call for his tournament life with {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} which was in front of the big blind’s rather speculative {5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. The board ran out {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts} to lock in the double for Tate and he climbed to 55,000.

Edoc Calls Out Hyun's Hand; Busts

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

After the three-way flop of {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, Redentor Edoc check-raised all in out of the small blind. Hyung Chul Hyun was the other player in the hand and had invested 10,000 to force out Vijay Narula, before the action was back on him. "I know you have ace jack," Edoc said in table chat and Hyun took a long time before making the call with the superior stack.

Redentor Edoc: {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Hyung Chul Hyun: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}

Edoc was ahead with two pair and needed to dodge an ace or jack, but had an extra sweat with the {7-Clubs} turn. Indeed, the {9-Diamonds} fell on the river and Hyun improved to a straight to eliminate Edoc.

Beveridge Loses a Big One

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Segundo Barte in the cutoff and John Beveridge in the small blind collided after a flop of {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and it soon became apparent why. Beveridge check-raised all in and Barte called before a rail emerged to see the showdown.

Segundo Barte: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
John Beveridge: {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

Barte banged his hands on the table when the {5-Hearts} turn fell, and did so again in excitement after the blank {7-Clubs} river. The local player doubled for 52,100 and left Beveridge with less than the starting stack.
