Trip Queens for Collins

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Three players committed 200 preflop; one of which was Candace Collins in the big blind.

The flop of {6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} saw the player under the gun bet out 500 with his two opponents calling as the {Q-Hearts} landed on the turn. Collins checked, the under the gun player checked, and the player in the cutoff bet out 1,000.

Only Collins called, and when the river landed the {A-Clubs}, she checked to her opponent who bet out 2,000.

Collins called and tabled her {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for trips, as her opponent tabled his {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two pair.

Wolpert Folds to Webb

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Three players committed 400 preflop as the flop was spread {6-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Leo Wolpert bet out 600 from the button.

Melvin Webb check-called from the big blind, as did the under the gun player, as the {8-Hearts} rolled off on the turn.

The action was again checked to Wolpert who bet out 1,600 only to have Webb check-raise to 4,200. The player in the middle folded, but Wolpert called as the {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Webb tossed in a single 5,000-denomination chip, and after a few moments of deliberation, Wolpert folded.

Today marks the first of three flights of the Main Event that features a whopping $150,000 guarantee and will see a mix of locals, seasoned veterans and poker amateurs look to ascend to the top and be crowned the 2016 Champion.

Tomorrow will feature a regular Day 1b flight as well as a turbo Day 1c flight that will have just 15-minute levels and give players one last shot and making it through to Day 2.

Last year saw 318 players take to the felt to create a $159,000 prizepool where the likes of Dan O'Brien, Marty Gorenc, "Boston" Rob Mariano and Kristin Kane all snuck into the money. However, when the dust settled, it would be Nick Aguilera defeating Jesse Capps heads up to capture his first live tournament cash and win for $42,830.

Action is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m. PDT with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates of all the Day 1a action live from the Run It Up Reno festival!
