Monty Klistoff and Tony Rodriguez saw a flop of 10♣K♦8♣ when Rodriguez moved all in for 100,000 from the hijack. "I can't fold. I have an open-ended straight flush," Klistoff said as he called under the gun.
Tony Rodriguez: Q♥10♠
Monty Klistoff: 9♣7♣
The J♣ fell on the turn and Klistoff hit his straight flush to leave Rodriguez drawing dead. The river was the Q♣ and Rodriguez was sent to the rail.
"Where were you guys?" Klistoff joked with the rest of the table.
Alex Smith moved all in for 65,000 from the small blind and Preston Dean put him at risk in early position.
Alex Smith: K♠9♥
Preston Dean: A♣6♣
Smith was left drawing thin after the Q♣5♥A♠ flop gave Dean top pair. The turn was the J♠ and Smith picked up a straight draw, but he missed the K♦ river and last year's runner-up was sent to the rail.
Josh Matti had a raise of 42,000 in front of him from the button before Alan Strouf moved all in for 211,000 in the hijack. Matti called to put Strouf at risk.
Alan Strouf: A♣Q♣
Josh Matti: A♦K♣
Strouf found himself dominated as the flop came 2♦2♣5♥. The A♠ fell on the turn to give both players two pair, while Matti remained in the lead with his king-kicker and was poised for the knockout until Strouf spiked the Q♠ on the river to win the pot and double up.
Play was about to go hand-for-hand on the money bubble while Nate Shervheim and Bryan Engebretson tangled in a pot. Shervheim had shoved for 100,000 from the hijack, and Engebretson put him at risk in middle position.
Nate Shervheim: A♣K♦
Bryan Engebretson: Q♠9♠
The J♣8♠8♣ flop gave Engebretson a straight draw, and he hit his straight on the 10♠ turn. The river was the K♥ and Shervheim was eliminated on the money bubble.
The remaining 72 players are now in the money.
Cody Krause moved all in for 40,000 from the button and Alan Curl called in the big blind.
Cody Krause: A♣J♣
Alan Curl: A♠K♠
Curl hit top pair on the K♣4♣6♣ flop, but Krause picked up a flush draw. The 4♠ turn was no help, while the river was the A♦ and Krause was sent to the rail.
"Never easy, always cheesy," Curl said.
Jon Wurden just put a brutal beat on Lee Nguyen, and the table filled in the details.
According to the table, Wurden, Nguyen, and Kevin Ellis saw a flop with two queens and a seven. Nguyen then got in his last 206,000, Ellis folded two kings, while Wurden put Nguyen at risk. Nguyen had flopped a full house with pocket sevens, while Wurden had king-queen for trips.
The turn brought another queen, and Wurden made quads to win the pot and send Nguyen to the rail. "Nobody remembers what the river was. He were allo focused on the quads," tablemate Ryan Skluzak said.
Justin Mayse moved all in from the small blind and Joseph Hurley called for his last 80,000 in early position.
Joseph Hurley: J♣J♥
Justin Mayse: A♥A♠
Hurley showed two jacks, but Mayse had woken up with aces to leave Hurley at risk of elimination. The 9♠4♣8♠3♦10♦ board offered no miracles to Hurley, and he was sent to the rail.
