Nicholas Lanzi Eliminated in 4th Place ($33,895)

Level 30 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Nicholas Lanzi
Nicholas Lanzi

A major cooler has seen Nicholas Lanzi the latest to hit the rail.

Lanzi moved all in from the cutoff for 1,450,000 and was called in the small blind by Derek Bowers.

Nicholas Lanzi: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Derek Bowers: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Aces versus queens is about as rough as it gets preflop, and Lanzi was finished off quickly with a {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop, that left him needing runners to survive.

They didn't come as the board was completed with the {3-Spades} and {8-Clubs} to send him to the rail in third place.

Mullen Gets Tricky and Gets Paid

Level 30 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Donald Mullen
Donald Mullen

Donald Mullen opened with a limp in the cutoff which was followed by a limp from Derek Bowers on the button, a call from Paul Campbell in the small blind, and a check by Nicholas Lanzi in the big blind.

On the {8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop, action checked to Mullen who bet 485,000. Only Bowers called to see the {k-Hearts} on the turn. The players checked to the {4-Spades} river and Mullen bet 700,000.

Bowers made the call and saw Mullen roll over {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} for sneakily played aces, which won him a big pot to take over the chip lead.

Mullen Survives With Chop, Then Doubles Through Bowers

Level 30 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Donald Mullen

Donald Mullen moved all in on the button for 2,200,000 and got called by Derek Bowers in the small blind. Paul Campbell folded the big blind and Mullen was at-risk and dominated.

Donald Mullen: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Derek Bowers: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Mallen was in trouble, but the runout of {5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, double paired the board and kept Mullen alive with the chop.

A couple of hands later, Mullen moved in again for 1,900,000 and again Bowers called.

Donald Mullen: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Derek Bowers: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}

This time it was Bowers with the ace-eight, same suits and all.

The {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} settled things quickly with a set for Mullen. The board completed {j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and this time Mullen successfully doubled through Bowers.

After Derek Bowers opened to 350,000 in the cutoff, Anthony Carbone moved all in for 1,220,000.

Paul Campbell moved in over top with both players covered for over 6,000,000.

Bowers showed {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} and folded, leaving Carbone's tournament life in the hands of Campbell.

Anthony Carbone: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Paul Campbell: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The Day 1a chip leader knew he was in rough shape, and after the board came [7h2s2h9s6], his fears were confirmed as he was eliminated in fifth place.

After action was folded to the blinds, Derek Bowers checked his cards, then moved all in for Anthony Carbone's 685,000 chips.
