Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Taylor Howard
Taylor Howard

Day 1b action in the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) Jamul Casino Main Event has wrapped up after almost 14 full levels of play with Chris Smith leading the pack with a massive stack of 525,000. Smith heads the 15 surviving players of this flight who will return to compete on Day 2 for a chance to be crowned an RGPS champion.

Play on Day 1b lasted for almost eight hours and saw a field of 119 entrants in a tournament with four starting flights that will almost certainly surpass the guaranteed prize pool of $150,000.

Other big stacks at the end of Day 1b include RunGood ambassador Taylor Howard who bagged second with an impressive 458,000 followed by Terry Davis (322,000), Sandor Molnar (270,000), and rounding out the top five is Kevin Meyers with 253,000.

Howard’s fellow RunGood ambassadors Preston McEwen, Cody Stanford, Bernard Lee, and Joe Stapleton all played in the second starting flight but didn’t make it to bagging as they all busted throughout the day.

Day 1c and Day 1d will both be held tomorrow, November 19, with the third flight starting at 11:00 a.m. PST and the fourth and final flight to begin at 6 p.m. The remaining players from each flight will return on Sunday, November 20 at 11 a.m. for a chance at taking the tournament down.

The eventual winner of the RGPS Jamul Casino Main Event will be presented with the championship ring along with the lion’s share of the prize pool, as well as an exclusive invitation and $800 seat and stipend package to the RGPS: All Stars ProAM Event at the PokerGO Studio in December 2022.

That wraps up coverage of Day 1b, but the PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow to bring you more updates.

Day 1b Ends as Roos Eliminated on Bubble

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jake Roos
Jake Roos

After losing a brutal cooler with ace-queen versus ace-king, Jake Roos was left with essentially one big blind which found its way into the middle the very next hand when Chris Smith opened to 12,000.

Jake Roos: {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Chris Smith: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

"Wow, of course," Roos sighed as he saw what he was up against.

The runout of {2-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} was no help to him and Roos was eliminated on the stone bubble. The remaining 15 players are now in the money and are starting the bagging process.

A full chip count and recap of Day 1b will be released shortly.

Moon Eliminates Gudger Close to Bubble

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

On a heads-up flop of {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, Ben Moon led out for 11,000 but then his opponent, Nick Gudger, moved all in for 77,000.

After asking for a cont and thinking it over for a few seconds, Moon decided he couldn't make the fold and threw out the calling chips, putting Gudger at risk.

Nick Gudger: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Ben Moon: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Moon's pocket tens were a big favorite over Gudger's pocket fours, and the runout of {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts} was clean for Moon and he was awarded the pot as Gudger was eliminated close to the bubble.

Mok Doubles Up

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

On a three-way flop of {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, Josh Mok led out for 12,000 but was then raised to 40,000 by Nick Gudger. After the other player quickly got out of the way, Mok moved all in for 55,000 total and Gudger quickly called to put him at risk.

Josh Mok: {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Nick Gudger: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Gudger was ahead at the time with his pocket eights, but the turn {j-Diamonds} left him drawing dead as Mok hit his flush to take the lead. The {j-Spades} on the river was just a technicality and Mok was pushed the pot for a double-up.

Don't Call it a Comeback

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Derek Molnar
Derek Molnar

After being left with just 25,000 a few hands previously, Derek Molnar managed to chip back up to a decent stack and now found himself all in preflop against Rich Alsup, whom he covered.

Rich Alsup: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Derek Molnar: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

A huge favorite going in, the runout of {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} was pure for Molnar and he scored yet another pot to swing back into contention, knocking out Alsup in the process.

Smith Chips Up with Kings

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

The player in late position opened to 8,000, then the hijack three-bet to 20,000, and then Chris Smith in the cutoff put in the cold four-bet to 68,000.

The original raiser folded and then the hijack thought for a few seconds before putting the rest of his chips into the middle for around 100,000 total. Smith made the call and the cards were tabled, with the hijack at risk.

Hijack: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Chris Smith: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Smith was a big favorite with his pocket kings, and the runout of {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} secured his victory and he was pushed the large pot as his opponent was eliminated.
