Day 1b of the $1,000,000 guaranteed RGPS Contenders Season Finale saw several players battle for the chip lead throughout the day, but at the end, it turned into a two-horse race with two-time WPT champion Cornel Cimpan taking the honor with 344,500 chips.

Michael Loncar was the only other player finishing Day 1b over 300,000, as he finished with 310,500.

Loncar's "Lucky Hand" Solidifies His Chip Lead

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Michael Loncar
Michael Loncar

Michael Loncar has been cruising in the last levels of the day and is currently the only player in the room over 300,000 chips.

In a recent hand picked up on the turn with approximately 15,000 in the middle on a board of {6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, the big blind and cutoff each checked to Loncar on the button who bet 10,000.

Both his opponents folded and the pot was pushed to Loncar.

"My lucky hand" said Loncar as he showed a raggedy {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} that had flopped him two pair to earn the pot.

"Stapes" Doubles Up "Spartacus"

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Joe Stapleton
Joe Stapleton

After Joe Stapleton raised to 1,300 from under the gun, Greg Pincombe, known at Thunder Valley as "Spartacus", moved all in from the small blind for about 29,000.

"Stapes" as he's known by pretty much everyone that's ever met him, called and a classic race involving two great nicknames was underway.

Greg "Spartacus" Pincombe: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Joe "Stapes" Stapleton: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop was safe for Stapleton, but the {k-Spades} on the turn left the comedian and poker commentator needing a ten on the river.

Instead, the {k-Hearts} added insult to injury, as Stapleton was left with under half of a starting stack, while Pincombe vaulted over 60,000.

Wild Pot Sees Tanimoto Top 100k

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Arthur Tanimoto
Arthur Tanimoto

Maybe the most exciting pot of the day just took place as three players were all in and a fourth made a disciplined fold to keep his tournament alive.

Preflop, David Ong raised to 2,200 in early position and was called by Arthur Tanimoto in middle position, Conrad Bowman in the cutoff, and Mark Egbert in the small blind.

The flop came {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{k-Hearts} and Egbert moved in for just under 16,000. Ong made the call, but then Tanimoto moved over top all-in for just under 40,000.

Bowman went into the tank before moving all-in as well for slightly more.

Seeing all the action behind his original jam, Egbert actually left the table and had to be called back by the floor staff who threatened to kill his hand.

He returned to see Ong now in the blender with the two further all-ins behind his original call.

With no further action possible, Ong folded {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} face up to save his last 17,500 chips, which proved to be a wise decision as the hands were revealed.

Mark Egbert: {6-Spades}{5-Spades}
Conrad Bowman: {a-Spades}{7-Spades}
Arthur Tanimoto: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Tanimoto's set of eights was ahead versus a pair of flush draws, with Egbert only drawing live to a straight flush.

The dealer completed the board with the {a-Hearts} on the turn and the {6-Diamonds} on the river to send the huge pot to Tanimoto, while Egbert was instantly eliminated and Bowman was sent packing shortly after as the was left with crumbs.

Stewart Has it on Nice Board

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Scott Stewart
Scott Stewart

Picking action up on a flop of {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} with 3,300 in the middle, the small blind checked to Scott Stewart in the big blind who bet 2,000.

Vijay Ramani called on the button and the small blind called as well.

The turn brought the {9-Clubs}, double pairing the board. Action was again checked to Stewart, who bet another 2,000.

Ramani called but the small blind folded.

The river brought the {9-Diamonds} putting a full house of nines full of sixes on the board. This time Stewart sized up to 16,500 and after some brief thought, Ramani called.

Stewart showed {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts} with the last remaining nine in the deck for quads and the winner.

Ramani showed the {6-Hearts}, then tossed his cards into the muck as Stewart took down a nice pot.

Hot Start For Richardson

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Paul Richardson
Paul Richardson

Paul Richardson's stack was already growing, but added a significant amount more following a hand with Aaron Messmer.

Preflop action started with a raise from the cutoff to 700 and a call from Messmer on the button. The small blind also called, but then Richardson squeezed to 4,000 from the big blind.

After the cutoff folded, Messmer called and the small blind folded, leaving the pot heads-up.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Richardson continued for 2,600, which Messmer called.

On the {8-Spades} turn, Richardson sized up to 11,500 and again got a call from Messmer.

After a board-pairing {8-Hearts} fell on the river, Richardson moved all in for Messmer's last 20,500 which sent him deep into the tank.

After a couple of minutes of deliberation, Messmer folded to send the pot across the table to Richardson, who is already approaching the six-figure mark.

Thao Takes Over Half of Moreno's Stack

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Johnnie Moreno
Johnnie Moreno

With 7,000 in the middle already on a {2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop, Johnnie Moreno bet 3,000 from the small blind and was raised to 8,000 by Peter Thao in early position.

Moreno called to see the {6-Diamonds} fall on the turn. The players both checked to the {7-Clubs} on the river.

Moreno checked again, then faced a bet of 12,000 from Thao. He didn't take long before calling to see Thao show him {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a flopped set of eights.

Moreno tossed his cards to the muck, accidentally revealing his {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} before the dealer scooped them up and pushed the pot to Thao.
