2023 RGPS Checkpoint Thunder Valley
The remaining players are now on their third break of the evening and will return to action shortly.
With 18,500 already in the pot, the flop came out 9♣7♣6♣ and Toko Luu bet 10,000 into his heads-up opponent, Joshua Baker.
Baker then wasted no time and moved all in for around 80,000. After getting a count from the dealer, Luu thought about it for a few more seconds before he set out a stack of chips to make the call.
Joshua Baker: 9♠9♥
Toko Luu: 10♣10♠
Baker had a huge lead with his top set of nines, but the turn J♣ gave Luu a gutshot straight draw AND a flush draw. Luckily for Baker, the river was the brick K♦ and he secured the huge pot for a big double-up.
"Phew! Had to make me sweat on the turn too!" Baker sighed with relief as he stacked his new chips.

After being left short the previous hand, Kyle Kitagawa moved all in with his last 6,000 after a raise from Jeffrey Day. Both James Friesen and Day made the call to put him at risk and they went to a flop of 10♠8♣3♣.
Day then moved all in for an additional 13,000 and Friesen made the call to put him at risk as well and the cards were tabled.
Kyle Kitagawa: A♣2♣
Jeffrey Day: K♠K♣
James Friesen: 3♠4♠
Day was well in the lead with his pocket kings, but Kitagawa could still hit any ace or club to win.
"If I win this, the curse isn't real!" he declared to accursed tablemate Jeff Platt, who looked on with a sick look of enjoyment in his eyes as someone's tournament life was on the line.
Unfortunately, the board ran out Q♥9♣ for Day to scoop the pot and Kitagawa was sent to the rail.

Kyle Kitagawa opened to 3,500 from the button and both blinds defended to see a flop of 9♥7♣8♣.
After a check from Daniel Evans in the small blind, the big blind led out for 6,000 but then Kitagawa raised to 16,000. Then Evans decided that wasn't quite enough and he moved all in for around 25,000 total and the big blind hastily folded.
Kitagawa quickly tossed in calling chips and the cards were tabled, with Evans at risk.
Daniel Evans: 9♦8♥
Kyle Kitagawa: Q♥Q♠
Evan had the lead with his flopped two-pair over Kitagawa's queens, but he was still alive with running straight and queen outs. Unfortunately for him, the runout came 9♣5♥ to improve Evans to a full house on the turn and no queen on the river sealed Kitagawa's fate. Evans was then pushed the bug pot for a double up while Kitagawa was left on life support.
