Gardner Finds a "Dream Spot"

Level 17 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Mark Brodsky opened to 25,000 in the cutoff, and Akash Patel three-bet to 55,000 on the button. After taking some time, Rob Gardner moved all in from the big blind for 156,000.

Brodsky went into the tank, opting to let his hand go. Patel then made the call, leaving Gardner at risk.

Rob Gardner: JJ All in
Akash Patel: KJ

"Dream spot," remarked Gardner as he watched the JQ6 flop give him a set of jacks.

The 4 turn changed nothing, while Gardner improved to a full house on the 6 river as he earned the double.

Cole Bankus got his stack into the middle, at risk against Lewis Wolfgang.

Cole Bankus: 77 All in
Lewis Wolfgang: JJ

Bankus picked up a flush draw on the turn, but was unable to connect on the river falling in 16th place.

One hand later, Mark Brodsky opened to 27,000 from under the gun and Anthony Potis called on the button. Both players checked the 657 flop.

Brodsky checked again on the 10 turn, making the call after Potis fired 25,000. Another check from Brodsky followed the 4 river, and Potis tossed out 41,000. Brodsky made one final call.

"Straight," said Potis showing 98. Brodsky nodded and smiled while turning over AA, as the pot was shipped to Potis.

Flashback: Joshua Butler Ships RGPS Grand Prix Tunica Main Event

Level 16 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Joshua Butler
Joshua Butler

Joshua Butler is quite familiar with collecting prize money and participating in winner’s interviews - but not when it comes to poker. The Alabama native is an accomplished professional bass fisherman who, until last week, had only competed in two other live tournaments in his life. He got his first taste of glory on the felt by defeating Hamid Izadi heads-up to take down the RunGood Poker Series Grand Prix Tunica Main Event, earning $49,282 and the coveted RGPS ring.

The two-day event featured a $600 buy-in and attracted 627 entries, with only 76 players returning to Horseshoe Tunica along the banks of the Mississippi River for the final day of action. Butler captured the lion’s share of the $326,040 prize pool, which crushed the $200,000 guarantee that was advertised.
