Douglas Avenell opened to 500 from under the gun and was called in three places by Denise Mohler in early position, Oscar King in the small blind, and Diego Hurtado in the big blind.
All four players checked through the 5♥7♦8♦ flop. King fired 1,500 on the 5♣ turn. Hurtado folded. Avenell made the call, and Mohler got out of the fold with a fold.
King slowed down with a check on the J♦ river. Avenell bet 1,100 and was called by King.
Avenell showed Q♠Q♥ for two pair to win the pot.

With Day 1a now in the books, the $600 RunGood Poker Series Grand Prix San Diego Main Event will now turn the page to Day 1bc as players will look to take advantage of the final two starting flights to qualify for Day 2 and pursue the main event title.
Corey Paggeot (600,000), Robert Fortuno (509,000), and Christopher Black (463,000) were the top three finishers for Day 1a as the tournament heads to Saturday’s action.
Players will begin with a starting stack of 30,000 chips. Blinds are scheduled for 30 minutes for the first eight levels of the starting flights. Registration will remain open until the beginning of Level 9, when the blind levels will increase to 40-minute levels.
Each player’s goal will be to qualify for Day 2, which will begin on Sunday, November 23, at 12 p.m. local time, where they will play until a winner is crowned.
The starting flights feature unlimited re-entries, and players may play all Day 1 flights. Players will only be entitled to play the higher chip stack, as any lower stacks will be removed from play at the start of Day 2.
A total of 12.5% of players, rounded down from each flight, will be in the money and qualify for Day 2. A total of 13 have already qualified from Day 1a. Time will tell how many more will join them as Day 1bc concludes.
Stay tuned here at PokerNews for coverage of all starting flights and the eventual champion here at The RGPS Jamul Resort Casino San Diego.
