Flashback: Ian Steinman Wins the Biggest RGPS Reno Main Event Ever!

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Last week, the RunGood Poker Series made another stop at Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada. The $600 Main Event saw its biggest ever prize pool of $188,700, generated by 370 entrants over the course of four starting flights. Just 44 came into the final day with a chance to take down that title, but after eight hours of play, only one player remained.

Readers who have followed the poker circuit for years will be very familiar with the name Ian Steinman. A WSOP bracelet winner out of California with 14 years of live poker experience that includes massive final tables and tournament wins aplenty. Now he can add a RGPS Main Event title to his resume as he walked away with his second RGPS ring and $36,220 to boot.

“I’m pretty calm no matter what,” Steinman said when asked about the massive chip lead he maintained throughout the final table. “I’m ok even if I make a mistake. It’s a little bit more pressure with the chip lead because even then your odds of winning are still low. Even with that, I was still zoned in.”

Three-handed play ended rather quickly as Steinman, Art Tanimoto, and Yang Zhou all discussed and agreed to a deal that would see Steinman take the lion’s share and the ring while Tanimoto and Zhou finished in third and second for the same amount.

Action folded to Keith McKuin on the button who raised to 3,500, before John Roberts three-bet to 11,000. It folded back to McKuin who four-bet all in for his stack of 62,500, which Roberts quickly called.

John Roberts: JJ

McKuin was way behind the pocket jacks of Roberts, but the Q9Q gave him a couple extra outs. However, after the board ran out 2 on the turn, and 7 on the river, the pocket jacks were still best, knocking out McKuin.

Reynolds Flopped Set Holds on Scary Board

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

A player in middle position raised to 3,500, which was called by both the small blind, and the big blind Paul Reynolds.

All three players checked the 359 flop, which brought the 2 on the turn. The small blind then checked to Reynolds who bet out 6,000, which got the middle position player to fold, and the small blind called.

The river brought the 4 and both players checked to show down. The small blind turned over J9 for top pair, but Reynolds had the winner with 55 to take the pot with his set of fives.

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Action was picked up on the river with roughly 25,000 in the pot, and the board showing 9Q2210.

Yang Xu was facing an over bet of about 80,000, which would put Xu all in. Xu took several minutes thinking over his decision, before Munoz called the clock on Xu. Once the floor came over, Xu was given 30 seconds to act on his, but he let his time expire and his hand was declared dead, giving Munoz the pot.

Set Over Set Gives Xu a Triple Up

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Action folded to Kevin Xu in middle position, and he moved all in for his stack of 2,000. It then folded to the player on the button who called, before the big blind three-bet to 8,500. The player on the button made the call.

After the flop came 2J10 the player on the button led out, going all in for his stack of 21,000. The big blind mucked his hand, to give the side pot to the button, and leaving the players heads up, with Xu at risk.
