A Master at Work: Two-Time RGPS Main Event Champion Andre Allen on Step One of the Path to Another Title

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Andre Allen
Andre Allen

If there is anyone in the sea of players today on Day 1b of the RunGood Passport Season Council Bluffs who knows what it’s like to navigate all the pitfalls and obstacles and take down the championship ring, it’s Andre Allen.

The Grandview, Missouri, native first won his hometown RGPS Kansas City Main Event in 2023. A year later, he added a second title in Joplin after being down to just one big blind late in the event. Allen has been coming to RunGood events for more than a decade and appreciates how the events are run and organized.

“Two-time Main Event champion. Three-time total ring winner,” Allen said. “I really enjoy it. The people and all the cities. Love how [tournament director] Murph runs things. A fan of all the dealers. I really love RunGood. I’ve been doing this since 2012. I want to say I was one of the first Kansas Cityians to come here.”

Allen found himself short-stacked earlier today but then picked up two kings to double up. He currently sits with around 70,000 as the field heads off on the second break of the day. He, as much as anyone in the field today, understands he’ll need plenty more hands like that in order to win the title.

“No secret. You’ve got to get a lot of luck and just hope for the best,” Allen said.

While Allen has been travelling the RunGood circuit throughout the Midwest for years, he wouldn’t describe himself as a professional just yet. “I’m still trying to figure that out. I travel to play. I’m gone twice a month to different cities. I would say I’m a professional, but I’m not a “pro” yet. I’m still working on that status,” he said.

He’s off to a good start, but Day 1 is just step one on the road to the title. “You can’t make a run at the title today. You can only find a bag. It’s a three-step process. We’ve got to put them in the bag, make the final table, then take it down,” he said.

Ellis Spikes the River in Four-Way All In

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Quang Pham moved all in for 10,000 from the hijack, Duster Ellis put in his last 18,000 on the button, the small blind reshoved for 35,000, and the big blind also called for 15,000.

Quang Pham: K7 All in
Big Blind: AK All in
Duster Ellis: 1010 All in
Small Blind: JJ

The small blind was ahead with his jacks as the flop came Q68. The turn was the 9, but the 7 river improved Ellis to a straight as he took down the pot to send Pham and the big blind to the rail, while earning a double up off the small blind.

Lutt, Watts Combine to Chop Down Terrazas

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Javier Terrazas three-bet to 15,000 in the big blind and Rick Lutt called for his last 13,000 on the button, while Ryan Watts also called in the small blind to create a side pot.

Watts and Terrazas checked the K43 flop. Terrazas then bet 10,000 on the 3 turn, and Watts called.

The 7 river was checked through, and Watts turned over 99. Lutt had KQ for top pair, and Terrazas mucked 88. Lutt took the main pot to triple up, while Watts won the side pot off Terrazas.

Fimple Picks Off Hamm

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Stanley Fimple limped in from middle position before Jeff Copeland raised to 3,500 in the hijack. Daniel Hamm called in the big blind, as did Fimple.

The flop came 643 and Fimple bet 1,000. Copeland quickly folded, while Hamm called to see the 3 turn. Fimple then bet 3,000, and Hamm again called.

The river was the 10 and Fimple bet another 5,500. Hamm then raised to 16,500, and Fimple quickly called.

"Good call, king-high," Hamm told him, showing KQ, and Fimple turned over KK to win the pot.

Terrazas Hits the River to Bust Nguyen, Jones Sitting on Massive Stack

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Javier Terrazas
Javier Terrazas

Javier Terrazas raised to 3,000 in the cutoff and Huy Nguyen called in the big blind.

The flop came 655 and Nguyen moved all in for 8,200. "Is that you?" Terrazas asked as he pointed at the board. He eventually called to put Nguyen at risk.

Huy Nguyen: A6 All in
Javier Terrazas: 98

"It was you," Terrazas said as Nguyen showed two pair. The turn was the Q, but Terrazas hit the 8 on the river to make eights and fives and send Nguyen to the rail.

Terrazas' stack, though, pales in comparison to that of tablemate Ross Jones, who has moved up to around 200,000. "El Capitan," Terrazas called him.
