"I Hoped He Bet"; Lucky Flop Rockets Ryan Bunes to a Massive Stack
Ryan Bunes was facing a four-bet to 21,000 from joe Rossi in a battle between the blinds and called to see a nine-high flop. Rossi then moved all in, and Bunes couldn't wait to stick in his last 46,000.
Rossi showed two kings, but he had picked the wrong time to shove as Bunes had flopped a full house with pocket nines. That massive pot put Bunes in contention for the chip lead after Level 8 of Day 1a as he headed to break with around 140,000.
"I hoped he bet. After he went all in, I was like, thank you," Bunes said.
The Plantation, Florida native works in sales and lives near the Harrah's Pompano Beach, which has become his home casino. He has around $47,000 in live career earnings, according to The Hendon Mob, most of those results coming here or other casinos in the South Florida area. The first-ever RunGood Poker Series stop in Pompano Beach was an opportunity he couldn't let pass by.
"I've been playing for a while. I've been trying to play a lot more recently. It's always nice to play in a big event like this," he said. "I'm enjoying it a lot. I live nearby, so it's always nice to play near home and have a short drive in."
Bunes has enjoyed a dream start to the event, but he recognizes making a run at the championship ring is still a long way off. "When you're chip leader, it's a good day. I want to hopefully keep it coming. Have a long way to go," he said.
